A live recording of Andrew March's "How Long, O Lord?" for mixed A Cappella choir, with the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John's University Chamber Choir under conductor Axel Theimer at a concert in Minneapolis MN, on 11th March, 2018. This is believed to be the first known recording of this choral piece.

"How Long, O Lord?" is a setting of Psalm 13 in English, written in London between 15th and 20th April 2008 and was revised 17 May 2011.  It was first performed in June 2011 by the Choir of St. Mary's Bedfont, in the United Kingdom. In 2014, the piece was published in the USA by Colla Voce Music, LLC.

The Text was taken from a combination of Scripture sources: Psalm 13 of the Darby Bible (1890), the Webster’s Bible (1833), the Hebrew Names Version (the World English Bible, an update of the ASV 1901) and from the Revised Standard Version (1901) for the single use of the word “foes”.

The Text: Psalm 13:

     How long, O LORD, wilt thou forget me? O LORD, for ever?
     How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
     How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart?
     How long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?
     Behold and answer me, O God!
     Lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;
     Lest mine enemy say, “I have prevailed against him!”
     Lest my foes be joyful when I fall.

     How long, O LORD, wilt thou forget me? O LORD, for ever?
     How long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
     As for me, I have confided in thy mercy;
     My heart shall be joyful in thy salvation.
     I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath been good to me.

Andrew March was the winner of the first Masterprize International Composing Competition in 1998 with his orchestral piece Marine - à travers les arbres. He was born in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, in November 1973. In 1992 he was accepted at the Royal College of Music to study composition with Jeremy Dale Roberts, graduating in 1996.
