The Glittering Gutter is Billie’s tale of the red light district of Hamburg where she grew up, and what it has become, now the golden days are over and decay has long replaced the glamour that once created opportunity for its inhabitants. Her heartbreaking vocal performance rips the listener apart with every line. ‘But for the smalltown voyeur she’s just the glittering gutter’ she whispers and later describes the Reeperbahn: ‘her teeth falling out, a carcass alive’.

In 1984 Andrew Poppy was signed to Trevor Horn's ZTT Records as an artist, composer and record producer; having previously studied with John Cage,  performed Philip Glass, made a couple of record for a hip independent European record label, and been an arranger for Matt Johnson, Psychic TV, Erasure and others.

In 2018 he continues to write, perform and record.
