I almost prefer the "reduced version"! But I am glad the tune still is prominent. Like the woodwinds here.

Music I made on Mixcraft to reflect a chilled out mood, something to play in the background while cooking supper or working at other stuff. I put the Didgeridoo in for something different. The painting is mine- of a Nguni.

Just moseying along

This is an Irish orchestral version of the profound hymn Sweet Hour of Prayer that I composed. 

I used to sing this as a lullaby for my children.  I would add in little bits.
When my Grandpa passed away we made a music video with this song.

It features several Irish instruments such as:
Uilleann Pipes: These are from the bagpipe family but are different from the typically-seen Scottish bagpipes.  One obvious difference is you need to be sitting down to play them.
Bodhran Drum: This is a hand held Irish drum that looks like a large tamborine (tambourine).  But it can produce a range of sounds.
Violin: A typical complement to small Irish folk bands, sometimes called a fiddle.
Harp: A great way to add harmony and rhythm, and a feeling of mystery.

Flute, Whistle, Concertina
Arrangement
I chose 2 of the 4 verses that exist for this hymn.
The first instrumental passage between verses sounds like a medieval dance to me, and it’s a part I would add when singing this as a lullaby to my children.  Because this hymn is written in 3:4 time a waltz works.
The second instrumental – I originally wasn’t sure if it fit, but I really enjoy it.  To me it brings out the feeling of victory over life’s challenges, thanks to our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
This hymn is one of the first I learned to play on the piano as it was easy to play.  But the lyrics have become more profound to me .
The story behind the author of the lyrics is in itself a great inspiring story – but for another day.

This song tells the story of a young boy trying to play a piece when he hears his Grandmother playing a hauntingly beautiful melody.  The song then alternates between her playing new melodies and him copying and getting better. Until he finally returns to try the original piece.  After an attempt, he nails it and finishes by playing his Grandmother's theme.

As with a lot of my songs, I made this one years ago, and am only now producing it. 

In fact I named it before we were able to have children, imagining this is what it might feel like to have daughters dancing around at home.

Well, 3 girls later and I'll say the real thing is even better.  But this piece at least captures a little of the feeling  (the quiet moments that is.) 🙂
