Swordplay club in Northampton creates community through ancient weaponry
Twice weekly, First Churches of Northampton is filled with the sounds of clanging swords.

The First Churches hall with its ancient plans,
Twice a week when the evening's near,
The swords come out and the heartbeats cheer.
With sabers and rapiers, longswords in hand,
The clash of the blades makes a joyful band.

A romantic ballad in the style of a troubadour

Au-Delà du Jour - Unplugged

Revised version of "Das Schloss an der Wupper", an old original composition, that I wrote almost 15 years ago. My source of inspiration was "Schloss Burg", a medieval castle complex originally built in the 12th century near Solingen (Western Germany).

Strictly speaking, a medieval piano piece is a paradox in itself, simply because of the instrument. Nevertheless, I tried to incorporate stylistic elements that are perceived as typically medieval today: parallel fifths and fourths, use of church modes (especially Phrygian), 6/8 time, dotted rhythms, constant pulse of quarter and eighth notes, stepwise progression, root-heavy harmonies, etc.
 
From a music history perspective, very little of this is actually authentic, but that wasn't my intention. The main focus was on the effect.

Nightfall at the Old Castle: A Medieval Piano Fantasy

“Alla corte del re” is a three–track indie folk / indie pop mini–album by Manuel Marino, blending poetic storytelling with medieval–inspired colors. Each song is a chapter in a journey through palaces, secrets, and voices rising from the people, forming a narrative arc from introspection to collective hope.

The opening track, “Alla corte del re”, paints the contrast between grandeur and emptiness inside the royal court, with fingerpicked guitars and a deep male vocal evoking the intimacy of a storyteller. The centerpiece, “Il segreto del palazzo”, expands the vision with solemn imagery and epic tones, capturing the weight and echoes of history within ancient walls. Finally, “La voce del popolo” delivers a luminous and uplifting finale, where guitars, flutes, and subtle pads create a triumphant crescendo leading to freedom and unity.

With its balance of delicate arrangements, evocative lyrics, and a warm, profound vocal line, “Alla corte del re” invites the listener into a timeless soundscape — intimate yet epic, fragile yet powerful. It is both a folk ballad and a cinematic journey.

SESSION SINGER WITH 25 YEARS EXPERIENCE:  I've been singing, recording and arranging vocals (and writing and performing music) for around 25 years, since I was a child - and two of my strengths are a lot of experience of working in a very wide variety of different genres and lots of experience of layering harmonies.
I also have an extended higher vocal range if you're looking for some high notes on your project!

I had classical training during my teens and since then have performed and recorded as a soloist, backing singer and in group numbers, adapting my voice to different styles of music including pop, rock, rap, RnB, jazz, trip hop, classical, Disney, folk, musicals, world and soundtrack music.

Since my teens I have also been arranging vocals and editing backing tracks for performances. I still arrange and record all vocal parts for a local contemporary choir as well as performing as their soloist.

I also write and release my own music which has led to me being commissioned to write music for a charity campaign and independent films.

I'm very used to recording both main vocals and backing vocals, double tracking my voice precisely and layering harmonies, including creating a choir of my own voice when necessary.

I sang in a few other languages (Italian, French and German) when training classically, learnt a song in Hindi a few years back and have sung in a few different accents of English and American. I can mimic quite well so am willing to sing in another language if I'm provided with a way to learn the pronunciation.

This new album [Il Grande Piano di Dio] is much more than a collection of songs, it is an autobiographical revelation.

Through these tracks, I share the most intimate part of my faith journey: moments of doubt and discovery, the daily surprises that life brings, and the inspiration I find in my family and in the world around me. Each song is a reflection of my experiences and my desire to unite the rational side of life with the spiritual dimension.

In these songs, I open my heart and invite listeners to join me as I explore questions of meaning, hope, and the longing for something greater than ourselves.

My wish is that this album can accompany anyone who is searching, who needs encouragement, or who finds beauty in both faith and wonder. Thank you for being here and letting my story become part of your own.

Music forever!
I've always loved music, more for playing it or, more precisely, inventing it (by which I mean writing it, composing it) than for listening to it. My inspirations range from ancient music to the most contemporary. I have no limits in my tastes, well not too many... As they say, there's good music and bad music, and only time can decide which is which... and often there are surprises.
