<b>Andrew Tholl</b>  is violinist, composer, drummer, and improviser. As a soloist and chamber musician he is dedicated to the performance of new music and the collaborative process between composer and performer. As a composer, Tholl’s interest lies in the exploration of the passage of time, the physicality of making music, noise, nostalgia, memory, and the synthesis of diverse musical styles. He is a member of the Formalist Quartet, wild Up, and singer/songwriter Julia Holter’s touring ensemble. He lives in Los Angeles where he is working on his first solo album and continues to be involved with music for concert halls, art galleries, films, puppet shows, bars, garages, bedrooms, and coat closets.&#13;

Memory Draws The Map We Follow

Andrew Tholl is a composer/performer whose work blurs the boundaries between genres, blending the visceral and the experimental. Hailed by the Los Angeles Times as “vigorously virtuosic,” his work explores the passage of time, the physicality of performance, noise, nostalgia, and memory. His wide-ranging output spans contemporary classical music, experimental rock, film, dance, and theater. Frequently working across disciplines, Tholl challenges traditional formats and creates intersections between music, art, and performance. He is a member of the acclaimed ensembles Wild Up and the Formalist Quartet, and his collaborations with a wide spectrum of artists—from contemporary composers to mainstream and indie musicians, improvisors, and visual artists—further enrich his work through creative exchange and interdisciplinary partnerships. In addition to composing and performing, he teaches music composition at the University of California, Santa Barbara, as well as violin and music history at Ventura College. He lives in Los Angeles, where he is currently working on his next solo album and continues to engage with music for concert halls, art galleries, films, puppet shows, bars, garages, bedrooms, and coat closets.
