Freedom and dream
"Volare (Nel Blu di Pinto di Blu)," as renditioned by the Gipsy Kings, is a celebration of freedom and the power of imagination. The image of painting oneself blue and flying "en el cielo infinito" (in the infinite sky) is not just a metaphor, but comes from the vivid dreams of lyricist Franco Migliacci, inspired by the paintings of Marc Chagall, where figures float in the air with blue faces. This artistic detail transforms the lyrics into an invitation to transcend everyday reality, as when the protagonist says "me pintaba las manos, la cara de azul" (I painted my hands, my face blue) and lets himself be carried away by the wind.
The Gipsy Kings' performance, marked by the lively rhythm of flamenco rumba, reinforces the song's optimistic tone. The repetition of "Fly, oh-oh / Sing, oh-oh, oh-oh / In the blue dipinto di blu / Happily staring lassù" conveys a sense of ecstasy and freedom, as if flying were synonymous with complete happiness. The line "Y volando, volando feliz / Yo me encuentro más alto / Más alto que el Sol" (And flying, flying happily / I find myself higher / Higher than the Sun) highlights the idea of ​​overcoming limits through dreams. The song invites the listener to surrender to fantasy and the joy of living, showing that, even if certain dreams seem unique and impossible to repeat, as in "Pienso que un sueño similares no volverá más" (I think a similar dream will never come back), they are worth living intensely.
