Rugged, raspy, and roaring with charisma, Ben Caplan’s voice is to song as smoke is to bourbon: perfectly coupled. He is a songwriter and performer who is bold in both range and ferocity. The music is fuelled by a quality of melodrama and powerful lyricism that sets Caplan apart from his peers. Either solo or backed by his band, The Casual Smokers, Ben Caplan has captured the attention of music fans and media across Canada, Australia, and throughout Europe.

Ben Caplan is supported by upright bass, drums, Eastern European inspired strings, and occasionally horns. Ben himself moves between guitar and piano, marking his place in the world's music landscape with an outrageous musicality and a growling spirit. 
 
Besides writing and recording, Ben Caplan is almost perpetually on tour, having played more than 1000 shows since the release of his debut album in late 2011. His songs, his voice, his humour, and his charm collude to create a rhapsodically energetic live show – an elegant cacophony drawing fans in ever widening circles.

On the strength of his debut album, In The Time of the Great Remembering, Ben Caplan won numerous Canadian awards, including Nova Scotia’s 2012 Entertainer of the Year and the East Coast Music Award for Rising Star Recording of the Year for 2013. He’s shared stages with acts ranging from Grizzly Bear and Dirty Projectors to The Staves and Blondie. In addition to his 1000+ club shows, He’s played major festivals around the world including the UK’s Glastonbury in 2013.

In 2015, Ben Caplan will continue to break new ground with dates planned across North America and around the world. His highly anticipated second album, Birds with Broken Wings, is prospected to be released internationally in fall of 2015.

One of Canada’s most celebrated songwriters, Joel has dozens of awards to his credit and thousands of tour dates under his belt. Joel is known as one of the country’s most innovative, hard-working, and fiercely independent artists. 

On his 12th release, Solidarity, Joel is sharing the spotlight with his earliest musical influence- his father, Bill.  The first full-length musical collaboration between father and son, the pair toured the record from one end of the country to the other.  The album is a powerful collection of original and traditional songs, reflecting the duo’s individual journeys and personal politics.

Andrew Waite is a passionate songwriter, performer and educator who recently released his second award-winning album, Tremors, in 2018. His songwriting is honest, rugged, and evocative and he delivers a relentless and dynamic performance whether he is performing solo, duo, or with his full six piece band.

Tremors was released in September 2018 and was the recipient of the Music PEI 2019 Rock Recording of the Year, along with garnering nominations for Album of the Year and Solo Recording of the Year. Waite’s most recent single, “Faith” reached #1 on the East Coast Countdown in April 2019. Andrew’s songwriting and performance style is inspired by a range of artists including Dan Mangan, Glen Hansard and Bruce Springsteen. What sets Andrew apart is his ability to captivate audiences whether he is playing with his 6-piece powerhouse band, as a duo with his wife/saxophonist Nikki Waite, or singing solo and sharing stories with his acoustic guitar.  He has performed on the East Coast Music Association’s Breakout, Rising Star, Bluebird North and Rock stages and was also the songwriter chosen to represent PEI in the 2017 Atlantic Songwriters Tour. This tour, organized in collaboration between ECMA, APA and SOCAN, presented music from up and coming east coast artists at theatre venues across the maritimes and in addition to Andrew included Ian Sherwood (NS), Mike Biggar (NB), Jordan Musycsyn (Cape Breton) and BRDGS (NL). 
 
In addition to being a songwriter and performer, Andrew Waite is also a music educator who has been working with young musicians across Prince Edward Island for a number of years. He recently completed his Bachelor of Music Education from Memorial University, and runs a summer rock camp in collaboration with the Holland College School of Performing Arts in Charlottetown. Island Rock Camps (www.islandrockcamps.com) was founded by Andrew in 2014, with the vision of bringing professional musicians in as mentors and coaches for youth learning to play and write. He has also brought these workshops to festivals including Larlee Creek Hullabaloo (Perth-Andover, NB) and the PEI Jazz & Blues Festival.

Blue Rodeo’s new studio album #ManyAMile is out now! 

In the 35 years since forming, Blue Rodeo have sold over 4 million albums, received dozens of JUNO Award nominations and wins, played over 2,000 shows, been inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, received a star on Canada’s Walk of Fame, been named to the Order of Canada and have been honoured with the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award. And they’re still as strong as ever with the upcoming release of their 16th album Many A Mile, and a national tour on the horizon.

Carleton Stone’s latest album Draws Blood (GroundSwell Music) finds the 28-year-old songwriter delivering his most personal artistic statement to date. Co-produced by Howie Beck (Feist, Hannah Georgas, Hayden) and Jason Collett (acclaimed singer/songwriter and member of Broken Social Scene), the album radiates with vibrant life.

Dodging between the hushed tones of “Blood is Thicker Than Water,” the Low-era Bowie inspired “Climbing Up The Walls,” and the graceful pop of “Signs of Life,” Draws Blood’s three song opening introduces a vast sonic pallet that continues throughout the album. Influences and inflections are meticulously pieced together to carry the emotional weight of each track. 

The album is dedicated to Stone’s mentor and close friend, Jay Smith. A veteran musician in Nova Scotia, Smith was a trusted confidante and Stone’s first-ever co-writing partner. He passed away mere weeks before Stone was to enter the studio to record the album. 

Paying heartfelt tribute to his longtime friend, Stone summarized the album’s theme by saying, “Draws Blood is about what we lose in life and the way we hold ourselves as we carry this pain forward, still trying to find the joy that makes every day worth living.” 

The loss, the healing, and the clear-eyed, dogged pursuit of a life well lived are present throughout Draws Blood. A desire to address these weighty and relatable experiences is at the core of Stone’s strength as an artist. He excels at tapping into an ideal balance between that lyrical gravity and a love of melody. An unabashed pop music fan, Stone says his tenure co-writing at the Gordie Sampson Songwriting Camp has been an eye-opening experience that allowed him to mature as a composer.

Teaming with songwriting vets like Sampson, Beck, Collett, and, previously, Hawksley Workman (the Juno Award-winning musician who produced Stone’s 2011 self-titled album) has fine-tuned Stone’s understanding for how to pick the right songs for an album. He says his ultimate goal is to pick the ones that impress him more than others. 

After all, he concedes, the older you get and the more you write, “the harder it gets for your own work to impress you.”
