the flight path characteristics of honey bees are mapped onto a small set of synthesizers. amplitude being effected by the distance of a bee from its hive, while frequency and vibrato are attributes of the flower which a bee lands on. flight here is represented by silence.

bee speed output

two forms of canons occurring simultaneously. one canon is typical, but at such a speed and frequency that its melodic form is distorted into a cloud of short sine tones. the second is a prolation canon with added silence. this melody is lower in frequency and very sparse, in fact it states the seven tone canon subject just once over the course of the ten and a half minutes.

for the birds

3 sound sources slowly chase up a single glissando at their own rate, while a sonar remains constant. duration and sound source chosen by a weighted random algorithm in performance.

discrete ascending glissando counterpoint

an amazing rendering of directions(2) written for ben levinson and his contrabass. a series of positions for the left hand and bow are given in a tabular format along with proposed duration, bow pressure, and bow speed. the performer is asked to progress through the table and make fine adjustments to the positions of the hand an bow to find single string multiphonics. melodies, harmonies, and rhythmic forms emerge through an unbounded collaboration between the directions and the determination of the performer.
