Phase Group continue their exploration of the fringes of contemporary electronic music with a release that brings together two separate projects born from analogue hardware improvisations.

‘A Given Moment’ presents the dub-laden, mind-bending and noise-driven music of Brussels-based artist and Vastechoses label head Lostsoundbytes, and the lo-fi, early morning lysergic experiments of Lowspace, an unearthed, forgotten collaborative project by French DJ and musician Low Bat and Dresden-based producer Heninspace.

This is music that takes you deeper into the vortex, made for dark and smoke-enveloped clubs and cosmic day-break afterparty moments. On the A-side, Lostsoundbytes continues his prolific output of masterfully crafted bass-heavy and dub-wise analogue machine jams, while the B-side presents two lost psychotropic experimental recordings by Lowspace made in 2018 upon a visit by Low Bat to Heninspace’s Dresden studio.

in this story helleroid experiments with mixing genres, breaking rhythms, sub waves, multiplying abstract textures, vocal pieces and takes the listeners into transformative journey from the darkest depths to the brightest heights of sound, questioning reality, looking for clarity, craving freedom, creating her own escape room to reconnect with the source.

When disparities in uncertainty arise, when nothing else counts and you barely know yourself; what fills your mind, characterises your being, and propels you forward? To quench the thirst for what is to come in a constellation that we cannot see further than our own eyes? For a state of mind left in wonder that has become your own source of tranquillity when referencing what might be the foundation of your existence, is where Marie Delprat's latest release has originated from. A French musician and composer residing in Basel, she creates hybrid projects influenced by several musical cultures such as ancient, contemporary, and experimental music. 

What does it mean to be a female performer in a post-humanistic world, why does this personal quest need an artistic production, and why does this matter?

Such questions are interpreted and serve as the foundation for Ethereal Realms - all fiction is metaphor, a multi-modal electronic music performance inspired by Ursula K. Le Guin's 1969 science fiction novel The Left Hand of Darkness. Although the story's plot was seen as taking place in an alternate science fiction world far in the future, her imaginary settings have inspired feminist science fiction, feminist social movements, and humanist philosophical thinking for many years. 

As Marie Delprat rotates between narrator and character, between objective and subjective
vision, Ethereal Realms – all fiction is metaphor is not a mere re-telling of The Left Hand of
Darkness, but rather a dynamic fusion of commentary and live music performance. Marie Delprat welcomes you inside her own science fiction world to denounce her idea of what it means to be human in our artistic age and her self-portrait of being in an introspective experience that encourages reflection on the fluid nature of identity and human connection.
