Yulia Aug, the face of contemporary Russian art house, a theatre and film actress, plays Ines de Castro, a medieval “dead Portuguese queen” who died for love and was resurrected as everything does that is real. Denis Azarov's production is based on a play by Alexei Shipenko, a landmark playwright for Russia in the 1990s, and for modern German theater. Shipenko uses a canvas of real events that took place in medieval Portugal, when the beloved Infanta of Don Pedro, Ines de Castro, was executed, and then, posthumously, elevated to rank of kingship. But the playwright turns this story that has inspired many artists, writers and filmmakers into a frank diary of the contemporary woman, full of delight in regards to what is happening to her. The mystical nature of the heroine's experiences is the main plot of the performance.
