During my first listening to Linda Leimane's Chamber Symphony, I attempted to experience it (typically) as a linear event, progressing toward a climactic moment and conclusion. But I soon realized that this music was an entity, a kind of sonic object. My experience during the second listening was circular, comparable to a person slowly walking around a multi-textured sculpture. As with the perception of music unfolding over a period of time, I also could not "see" this entire sound-object at any moment. On third listening, I realized that I had not travelled full-circle around this sound-object, for I did not arrive where I had started. I realized that I was on an ever-mutating spiral.

The piece represents the nightmare of being one of the people who jumped off the Twin Towers. It’s a dilatation of the 10 seconds flight (aerial sounds, disturbances in audio communications, several cuts) and a "cantus post mortem" at the end. This madrigal has no text.

The ever-shifting shapes, reflecting on the surface…they fall into my verses…I nail them to my wall, which transforms into a burthen – a not yet comprehended story, which drones and drowns the clangours of dead gods…all this tightly fitted into contours drawn by light and sea…

This composition was awarded the third prize at Future Symphony competition 2020. Performed by Future Symphony orchestra, conductor Adomas Morkūnas-Budrys.
