Comparison: SASS-Lite with 2 EM172 mics per channel, vs. Foam Binaural Head (pictured) with single EM172 capsule set in each ear canal (silicone ears, closed cell foam head).  The ears gave a much stronger signal than the boundary effect of the SASS-Lite.  FLAC file, download about 7 MB, 1 minute length.  SASS-Lite is first.

two Jez Riley French hydrophones, placed a bit more than a meter apart, a few centimetres under the surface algae, as shown in the thumbnail image.

left and right channels show clear difference in insect/animal sonic activity. i have panned them hard to left and right, but not completely, so there is a bit of overlap. further, i left the recordings in their original state, with no EQ adjustments whatsoever. you can hear water beetles, water boatmen and the sound of aquatic plants as they take energy from the light. (thank you JrF!) any further help with insect/animal identification would be greatly appreciated!
