What happens when two beatmakers from opposite ends of Te Ika A Māui, armed with different creative processes, decide to make some tunes together? The ‘Joint Effort EP’ is a 3 track showcasing of an exciting collaboration between AndWahn (Tāmaki Makaurau), and Synthetic Children (Te Papaioea), finding its strength in the culmination of differing skillsets and workflows, and demonstrates a reciprocated admiration of craft. From DAW to drum-machine and back again, this is a conversation via warping basslines. Grooves switch up with dynamic genre fluidity, proudly showing the shared inspiration taken from various bass genres such as dubstep, grime, and jungle. Available exclusively on bandcamp, soundcloud, and nina protocol, this is one for the low-end lovers.


Synthetic Children is the solo moniker of Te Papaioea based artist Celina Goacher (either/eyether, Khaki Department, bitch whistle). Via hardware synths and drum machines she endeavors to create cathartic dancefloor experiences, navigating between murky, dissociative atmospheres with autotuned vulnerabilities, and gender-euphoric climaxes atop weighty grooves. Her recent output spans experiments with guitar textures, blast beats and emo on 2024’s ‘like a peeled orange sinks in water’, whilst the bubbling beats and hyperpop vocals of this year’s ‘Smooch EP’ showcase “Palmy’s premier snack pack herself” (Diesel Jenny) taking her love for dance music to its transgender-runglist niche. Big Fresh Collective also host Synny C’s blistering 160bpm ‘angel showed her’ on Footmahi ‘25.
