As Christmas is just around the corner we thought it was only right that we bring you one final mix of the year.  This year we’ve welcomed DJs from across the globe but this week we delve into the collection of a DJ who’s slightly closer to home, Manchester’s own, Yadava! @yadavasoflute

Yadava is a Manchester based musician, producer and DJ. As a co-founder of long-standing Mancunian club night @soflutemcr a community focussed party with an open music policy, Yadava’s sound draws upon soulful rhythms and grooves with an inflection towards jazz-influenced and percussive sounds. Yadava has released music on labels such as @church_label @tru_thoughts_  @omenarecords @anmarecordslondon @banoffeepiesrecords, XVI Records, and local label @adhocrecords with support from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Osunlade, Nemone, Crazy P, Moxie and features from Mixmag, Stamp The Wax and more. The self-described instrument fumbler and radio mumbler also hosts a bi-monthly radio show ‘Expansions’ on NTS Manchester alongside fellow Manchester producer and studio collaborator @contoursmusic 

Yadava has also recently launched a new label & party  @allkindsofjoy.mcr which kicks off with its first party on 4th Feb at audiophile hifi bar @nammcr DJs @admin_bristol & fellow So Flute man @danuka1990 will be sharing the decks with Yadava so you can expect an eclectic night of sounds spanning jazz, world, disco, funk & more. Also 100% of the profits from the night will be donated to local charity Kids of Colour so make sure to grab a ticket as it’s set to be a top night! 

Before you get stuck into Yadava’s ‘Piano Mix’ he had a few words to say about it;

“For this mix I pulled together some records from my collection that heavily feature piano, or that won me over with their piano parts. Featuring classic recordings and some more under the radar the mix moves through some solo piano pieces, library sounds, classic jazz trio sets, modern compositions, jazz-funk for the dancefloor and some of my favourite house cuts that feature piano.”

Love Injection is a New York music and culture monthly fanzine in print since February 2015, founded by DJs, archivists, and audio enthusiasts Paul Raffaele and Barbie Bertisch. Their namesake record label launched in 2020. Avid record and audio enthusiasts, Paul is also an art director and Barbie writes and performs music with various projects.

Half disco 7 inch and half caffe' corretto, when it comes to leftfield disco sets , golden era deep house and killer programming Andy knows his onions.  A child hood spent listening to Talking Heads, proper 80s UK Indy-pop blended somewhat chaotically with a healthy dose of  Mediterranean sunshine via the sounds of  Adriano Celentano and Pino Daniele, Andy’s formative years covered wide musical bases. 

Misspent teen years in the early 90s, and an insatiable vinyl addiction for underground hip hop, NY house and UK rave records over this period matured into a love of underground disco funk in the late 90s and a vast collection of disco records, leading to present day dj sets which are , without fail, an eclectic selection of  quality underground dance music and wildly varying tempos.  Andy has shared billing with Todd Terje, Greg Wilson, Andy Smith, Phil Mison, The Revenge, Mark E and Balearic Mike and Djed many times at long running disco night Melting Pot in his current home Glasgow.  He has held residencies in Glasgow and London and in these locked-down times can be found on his own show on Radio Magnetic ‘run4cover’ (www.mixcloud.com/radio-magnetic).
