There was a bunch of songs I recorded with engineering students for these sessions a number of years ago. Im not sure where all the songs are these days, but this one and some others remain in my collection. 

I was playing piano and singing, then adding just an acoustic guitar. Or on some tracks, the other way around, as is the case with this track.

These were a bunch of songs id recently written at that time, and it was good to stretch them out and get to know them during these NCAT sessions. 

Here's a bit about the meanings in the song.....

...there is actually many back roads to Lawrence....I used to live along one, on an old farm in a caravan. My dear friend named Krud was in the main house...his goat ate the mud-flaps off my car there once, then stood on top of it like my car was a hill.... anyway......it wouldn't matter which back road you took though, to Lawrence....people would come across the situation thats being told in the song from time to time..... 

.....there were some big sawmills, with a lot of employees heading in that direction towards Lawrence, from where I was living. I knew some of the workers at that stage of life. So that, and the average local relationship stories from my home town, all came together as this song.... the imagery I worked on for a long time in the lyrics, and kinda actually got there....

its an old song. I made a number of attempts at the arrangement order. I remember liking another than is on this version, though its lost to the winds of time. 

Heres something about the song meaning etc....

...i don't run from experiences, places and people in the same way as i did when i was younger....i would just pack up and move on when it all felt too hard, I'd live in my car for a while and start again in some new town or city.....it all felt so self-romantic at the time.....and it was, it just took me a while to realise the lack of responsibility to myself and others in my life it contained at the same time.... i often reflect on some of those times for songs, and what that was, or even still can be in me....i remember one time really well, i had an old XY ford, i called it the cool-mint after its color...i loved that car, it was so big you could almost stretch out sleeping on the back seat....which i did for quite a while......

One Under The Hood - demo that never made an album

Here's my latest bass heavy creation 'Lights Out'.  I first wrote this a couple of years back while on the way to Infrasound Festival with the Opiuo Band.  It was dark and cold when we got there and there was lots of mud, but we rocked the party along with the bros Truth and Russ Liquid.  Thanks to Muti Music for kicking my arse to finish this tune properly.  It's been going off in my DJ sets since I wrote it and now everyone can get dark and dirty.  Enjoy.  Bigups!
