If you're looking for Valentine's Day tunes, you've come to the wrong place. We start with Working Men's Club, which has bits of The Fall, Maximo Park and Wire (and more), according to my ears. Then it's Nano Kino, in a bit more of a rocky vein than usual--I can't understand why more people haven't picked up on them yet, cos they deserve to be much bigger. Things continue in a rocking indie vein with The Coathangers, before we go very Prog with Sunwatchers. Don't then be fooled by the opening of Andy Frasco & The UN, it's with a bit of a NO funeral main line feel, but after about a minute becomes much more of a second line Gospel style workout. We stick the the R'n'B feel for The Budos Band's instrumental workout, before tuning into the thumb pianos of Mental Overdrive. Then we get to some major guitar wigging out with W.H. Lung (think War on Drugs only much longer). We round off with a couple of electronic dance tunes from Octo Octa and The Chemical Brothers. Another very tough choice to pick a favourite track this week, there's at least 5 contenders, but I'm going for W.H. Lung's "Simpatico People", just ahead of Nano Kino's "Vermillion Border".

The songs on “Illegal Moves” crackle with an energy informed by passionate disgust of the status quo, realized on the album cover by Scott Lenhardt's Mort Drucker-esque illustration of the Kool-Aid Man battling the personifications of evil from across the world. A psychedelicized avatar for the general wrath and action that they believe in.
