in his most boneless approach to composition & arrangement — a barefooted take is brought to life by [kimetsu.] through a loop of string progressions, before the lacing & layered of multiple percussive elements that gain prominence as the song takes shape.

in their nature, these are minimal & one take — with Johnny Wxlf, sculpting the setting, not only with his brilliant writing & vocal delivery but by equally directing the boneless beyond its minimal nature.

The one thing I always appreciate and love about working with [kimetsu.] is always how organically and easily the songs come up. I remember scrolling through WhatsApp status' and he had posted a sample of this instrumental. I immediately asked him about it and he responded with the instrumental itself. The interesting part is that the initial instrumental was almost 2 mins and I already knew I had alot I wanted to do on it. So going into studio I had to extend it to accommodate the song I had to sing for it. The song itself ‘amadlozi’ is a song I've had since 2018 but never actually got the chance to record it or bring it to life anywhere and this instrumental felt like the perfect canvas for what I wanted to express with this song. Amadlozi is a call to our ancestors to reach out to our generation and guide them back to their African roots. I wrote this song during a period of deep frustration with how westernised African music and life had become.
