Tektronicity on a Sunday - 13

I've been listening to electronic music since I was old enough to tune into the John Peel show on Radio 1. Peel first introduced me to Chicago House, Detroit Electro and Rap. I would listen to an entire show with my finger hovering over the record button of my 'tape-recorder' close to the radio speaker just to record whatever 3 electronic imports he would play each night. I wish I'd kept those recordings.
From the moment I first heard 'Roxanne Shante' I sought out everything I could ranging from Kraftwerk, Mike Oldfield, Kurtis Mantronik, Africa Bambata, Grandmaster Flash, Gorgio Morodor, Axel-F, Jean Michel Jarre and just about anyone who used a synth to make music! With the arrival of House in the mid-late 80's the likes of Marshall Jefferson, Frankie Knuckles, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Steve Silk Hurley, Adonis and many more American underground House producers, the music had developed into a new, seriously exciting phenomena.
Music progressed at pace with House and Acid imports driving change, the UK in particular underwent an epiphany of sorts in the 80's and 90's. From Break-Dancing to New Romanticism, the music developed, finally morphing into the early genres of Acid Trance, Techno and Progressive Trance. Heavily influenced by American and underground Dutch and German artists and with the advent of clubbing and non-speaking mixing DJ's, it opened up a Pandora's box of new music, influences, sounds and styles. What that amounted to for me (and most others like me) was an ever-growing range of electronic music that was continually breaking free from pigeon-holes and mainstream pop culture. Electronic music had become the new classical music of a generation.
I can only say that electronic or computer music has evolved beautifully in the past 40 years and I love it as much now as the day I first heard John Peel play fantastic American imports.
I'm not anything more than a bedroom DJ and electronic music enthusiast. I have the greatest admiration for those who DJ publicly and seek to build a following or career from DJing, but that’s not a path I’ve tried to follow. I do love to put together great tunes, so for me using this sort of platform for sharing music is perfect for me. I do mixes both on my decks and using Ableton, as sometimes I find it easier to create a journey through that medium. 
As for making music, I’m slowly finding my way around Ableton in order to bring life to the musical ideas rolling around my head. 
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the mixes I post, please give me some feedback and if nothing else, support the artists themselves and buy their music.

We are a collective of 3 Dj's, Colin Laird, Darren Mc Menamin and myself Joe Doherty who have known each other for far longer than we care to admit. With a deep rooted love of dance music in lots of forms, spanning many years from the 80's to the current date.We are still heavily involved in the electronic music scene, still loving getting our hands on the latest tracks. Macarronica, also known as "Goa Lady," is a Swiss-Italian DJ and music producer based in Montreux town. Alfa Toe is Bart De Vos ,  a Belgian dj born in Eeklo on 13 august 1982.

I have been into music my whole life, it all started back when I was about 12 playing music in my room. With an old Technics amplifier as a gift from my father and an old vinyl player. Soon after that I bought myself 2 Pioneer CDJ 100’s and a basic Behringer mixer, from then on I started making mixes at home and learning my first mixing skills.
I played my first trance event back in 2000, at that time we also had our own events “Progressive Reaction” for a few years located in Ghent. 
I’ve also played alongside artists like Luke Slater, Robert Leiner, RPO (Rick Pier O’neil), Symphonix, SBK.
In the years after I played in clubs including Tijuana, Decadance, Kinky Star and the legendary Balmoral Club.
After the love of psychedelic Trance I have become obsessed with electronic music of all kinds. Some of the artist I admire are Yello, Orbital and not forgetting Pink Floyd.
Nowadays I prefer to play Techno. Artists I really like include Adam Beyer, Ida Engberg, Joseph Capriati, Oliver Huntemann, John Digweed, Matador, Nicole Moudaber and Gary Beck. I love to play deep groovy basses and Psychedelic sounds that make you move inside and outside your head.
I also started a new project together with DJ Gowax, also a well-known name in the Belgian Psy-trance scene. Together we formed “Beatsurfers” and with a broad selection in Tech House, House and groovy beats we love to move the crowd. But that’s a different story, for sure worth to check it out!

Nowadays i get a lot of support from wellknown party organisers 
Fien & Matthias (Dj Phooka) from the KUF KUF party's. 
They put Ghent on the map with their broad selection of all kinds of electronic music that the Ghentian scene has to offer. It's always nice to play at their fests, they ensure you always a good filled dancefloor and a nice atmosphere on one of the many chosen locations. 
They have my full support and lots of grattitude for them.
 
Recently Alfa Toe has moved to Ibiza, to follow his heart and love for the island and his wife who is born there.

With more than 20 years of performance experience around the world.
Born and raised in Ukraine, he began his music career in the early 2000s. Organising own events and performing as DJ in various clubs.  During a weekend he could play in more than five venues in a row. Opening an evening with soulful & deep house moods in restaurants and pre-parties, he normally continued in night clubs, playing intensive house & techno rhythms, and closer to morning he could be detected in some of numerous afterparties, transmitting massive progressive vibes.  

In the middle of 2010s he moved to Vietnam, where he proceeded arranging exclusive events and touring around South-East Asia.

Technical and spiritual elements of his music vision have been developing over the years.
Giving preferences to various kinds of electronic music, he eventually formed his unique style, where mesmerising depth goes together with strong dynamics, immersing listeners into the atmosphere of surrealism and phantasmagoria, allowing to perceive full interconnection between your body and soul..
