Two years after his label debut, Holloway returns to the Time Is Now catalogue with four tracks which, whilst all offering a taste of nostalgia, do so in diverse ways, making it a release at once multifarious and holistic. 

Since the release of ‘Some Days’ EP back in June 2020, Holloway has gone from strength to strength. A monthly Balamii residency; releases on Earful of Wax and Bluff Records; and a wicked contribution to our first All Stars compilation have seen the London producer harness a distinct sound somewhere between soulful atmospherics and club-ready ruffage.

The title track on this EP is a succinct embodiment of this dualism. Luring you in is a wistful ambience which harks back to the blissed-out atmospherics of early iterations of D’n’B with a complex tapestry of guitar twangs and reverberating instrumentals that you can get lost in. This, nonetheless, is not long before the jazz-tinged skippy two-step drums come into their full force, bolstered by a rude bassline that adds another layer of depth. ‘Destiny’ follows suit. Syrup-smooth vocals which ooze nostalgia tickle the soul before a warped bass line adds a layer of ruffage and situates the track firmly within a club playlist. 

The B-side takes things up a notch. ‘Ode to Shakeys’ is a dynamic, skippy speed garage banger whilst the aptly-named ‘Hypnotiq’ is a meditative take on jungle, peppered with tickles of piano and saxophone that evoke the sporadic nature of free jazz. The perfect closer.

Into the 00’s EP drops 24th June 2022 via Time Is Now.

The latest release for landmark label Lobster Theramin’s nostalgic futurist imprint Lobster UNDR, Jeals’ Scorpio Reservior is a four track electro power pack  ready to play.

Jeals proves the genre is formidable for club menace right away with the throbbing “Hague-based doom” filled A1 “Crash.” Rather than utilize the heavy kick prevalent in the work Australian electro mainstay Jensen Interceptor, Jeals finds power in the bass washed groove underneath it all to great effect. All bounce and no skitter, “Crash” is a mid tempo jaunt that’s low on the hi-hats and heavy on the groove and provides serious Goldeneye vibes. 

The descent kicks into gear with “Happening” as Jeals sound turns uptempo and floor ready smoothly. Making fantastic use of its sparse elements, “Happening” is more Luigi’s Mansion than Luigi’s castle, conjuring images of a demented grin before dissipating into the ectoplasm. 

The record’s flip side makes way for new sounds to varied success. “Finally” is a intriguing but simple ambient interlude that has apparently been used frequently by Lobster Theramin label boss Asquith as an ominous opening for his club sets. EP closer “XL” utilizes a 4/4 time signature and a heavy blunt kick to build a jumbled and slightly unnatural groove that struggles to justify itself amongst syncopated hi-hats and the occasional hand clap. For those looking to transition out of the electro world into something wonkier, “XL” could serve as a useful tool; a unique closing note to a diverse collection of club missiles.

PREMIERE: Jeals - Crash

Channel favourite, man like Hyasynthe steps up for a self released electro thumper: N-1. Densely melodic, hypnotically percussive and undulating-ly easy to get lost in. We thoroughly enjoy the panning synths, skittish kit and arpegiating keys coiling and snaking through your synapses:  pupils dilate, capillaries constrict  and heartbeats quicken -  it’s all part of the experience, man.

Today we have a premiere from Toronto based bad man Groves, reminds us why he has received an overwhelming amount of support by the likes of dBridge, Fracture, Skeptical, and Fixate. His remix of our fave rave king  Samurai Breaks' "Marathon" instantly makes you wish you where sweaty on a dance floor . Coming from a deep knowledge of audio theory, Groves’ music is powerful, raw, direct, and fresh while paying homage to his influences and the culture. 
His contribution to Sub Merchants 'Surrey Street' EP, is perfectly placed in its intention of exploring the contemporary evolution of jungle music. Included on the EP is a re-release of 3 singles by TMSV, Samurai Breaks, and THUGWIDOW, accompanied by remixes from Drumterror & B:Thorough, Groves and Fiesta Soundsystem.
Painting a picture of the jungle scene in 2020, ‘Surrey Street’ aesthetically pays homage to Croydon‘s roots within the scene, and features six sublime selections from some of the most exciting new names on the map over the past couple of years. You truly won’t find primer cuts this side of the River Thames.
