Following the release of the single 𝘔𝘢𝘲𝘭𝘢𝘣, the Marseille-based duo Caïn و Muchi presents their debut full-length album 𝘋𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘢. This takes listeners on a journey through a rich tapestry of industrial gloom woven of dubstep, grime, and contemporary hip-hop. In this album, these 'labels' matter as much as they don't, given the heavy mutations they undergo, in a That’s Hara Kiri fashion (RIP Sd Laika).

At the heart of this record lies a dense yet harmonious sound palette, featuring meticulous vocal processing of lead singer Vanda’s voice, which engages reflection on their shared and individual lives.

As the album progresses, the lyrics reveal layers of stress and trauma linked to colonial experience, intertwined with multiple references to North African ghost stories and legends. The result is a resonant experience, where the wraithlike and glacial instrumentals crafted by the duo encapsulates the introspective act of witnessing the turmoil of our current world.

KOUNATO (SPASTO) is a piece that explores the kitsch essence of nightlife through two contrasting yet harmonizing lenses: the raw, radical energy of the electronic-bass scene and the enduring “luben” aesthetic of Balkan club culture. The result is an ironic—yet undeniably catchy—musical statement that celebrates and critiques at the same time.

In producing KOUNATO (SPASTO), the artist drew strong inspiration from the vocal sample style of Crystal Castles’ Untrust Us, aiming to recreate a similar feel. Throughout most of the track, the phrase “kou-na-to, spas-to” is chanted abstractly—not as a conventional vocal, but as a melodic texture woven into the arrangement. The original “Κούνα το Σπάσ’το” verse was sampled for its playful rhythm and unmistakable kitsch character. To enhance the bounce and club energy, the tempo was slowed down and paired with bass-heavy drums, layered with oriental darbuka rhythms to retain the Balkan flavor.

and reclaimed their ancestral narratives.
The album embodied a turning point on their ongoing journey
towards self-acceptance.

Now, with RE:MERDEKA, they pass that charge forward —
inviting a visionary lineup of 12 artists from diasporic, decolonial, and
experimental club circuits to rupture and rechannel its essence into new
frequencies.

Featuring contributions from Nada El Shazly, 3Phaz, Raja Kirik, twofold,
Exploited Body, Corin, Flora Yin Wong, Deena Abdelwahed, x/o, ZAH,
and Makossiri, each track is fracturing, magnifying, and reanimating
its themes further.

The reworks move across rhythmical architectures:
from fragmented percussive mutations to meditative hauntings.
Every composition a different dialogue.
Where the unresolved gathers form and stories breathe anew.

This collection continues MERDEKA’s first steps facing away
from Western club music. Leaning into polyrhythms, ancestral echoes,
and sonic influences drawn from diasporic and non-Western worlds —
worlds that amplify voices, emotions, and ideas that are too often erased.

We’re donating 50% of this release to the Sameer Project,
a donation-based aid initiative, led by Palestinians, working to supply emergency shelter and aid to displaced families in Gaza!
