Celebration, Module VI, inspired by the rhythmic and melodic basis of “O Canada’ - Calixa Lavallée’s nation-binding hymn - brings a culminating set of polyphonic and harmonic synthesis.
“O Canada, Long Life et longue vie !”, an original text, sung by all performers, concludes this Fresco. With MultiMusic Canada for the New Millennium, placed on a stage in the traditional concert hall, I wished to crystalize the amazing ‘cornucopia’ of sung expressions that we share in Canada.”
Program Note:
MULTIMUSIC CANADA, A LEGACY FOR THE NEW MILLENNIUM was composed in accordance with the size and range of the Radio TV Moldova National Symphony Orchestra, whose conductor Gheorghe Mustea expressed the interest to perform the composition at The Inauguration Concert of the 10th edition of “The Days of New Music”. It lasts for about 14 minutes in performance.
Maya Badian stated: “MultiMusic Canada for the New Millennium, Instrumental Theatre for Orchestra, Chorus, and Multimedia in six modules is the full concept of the composition including orchestra, chorus, and multimedia. It lasts for about 21 minutes. Over the years, I have composed two new, original works. Their general structures are similar to the original version. Based on the same imaginary folklore tunes as my initial composition, I re-organized and re-orchestrated the entire work, and attributed all of the choral parts to be performed by instruments from the orchestra.

Program Note:
I composed Children’s World, Fourteen Progressive Pieces for Piano to enrich the repertoire of the young students, supporting the development of their technical and interpretative skills while enjoying the piano playing.
The titles are inspired by subjects and topics familiar to the youngest ones, and are based on my search for specific pianistic gestures, faithfully transposing the comprehension of the title. The imagination is thus stimulated and the performer is launched on a track to find a variety of musical idioms.
The series of 14 pieces, arranged progressively from beginners’ to advanced levels, has been conceived in concordance with the requirements of the piano program in Canadian institutions. Each piece is preceded by a detailed analysis. With an emphasis on musical parameters, from the general commentary to the in-depth formal analysis, bar by bar, my goal is to suggest landmarks for identifying important points in the musical structure leading to the pianist’s interpretation.
However I prefer to leave the liberty of different interpretations. I have therefore avoided strict commentaries and specific metronomic indications. The entire album may be performed either as suite, or each piece – individual

Premiere Information:
SUITE ON ROMANIAN THEMES for Marimba, Vibraphone and Piano was commissioned to Maya Badian by the virtuoso Montreal-based percussionist Marie-Josée Simard.
The titles of the four movements are: I. Cantando; II. Giocoso; III. Dolente; IV. Danza. Each of the four movements is generated by a different Romanian folklore tune. The composition is based on harmonic, polyphonic, or heterophonic textures, in accordance to the music's requirements; in addition,
specific modes and rhythms introduce the listener into a typical Romanian atmosphere. Idiomatic writing for each instrument is evident throughout the piece.

CONCERTO GROSSO for four timpani, and piano by Maya Badian. 
The three-movement Concerto: I. Allegro-Sonata II. Serenata III. Toccata.

II. Serenata, the second movement, is a reflection of the Romantic period, containing a rich theme simply presented, in a few bars, by the strings. In this movement, the only contribution of the solo timpani comes in an abstract and unusual glissando passage.

Program Note:
Deeply shattered with the dreadfulness of the Nazi Holocaust, its meaning and implications for our times, I composed the Symphony Holocaust - In Memoriam in memory of the Holocaust victims. “The Fifth Son” Elie Wiesel’s novel is the source of inspiration for this work. The tragedy and the depth of this Symphony are suggested by two themes that symbolize Life and Death as an obsession: The first one, inspired by a Hora Lunga, a folklore melody from Sighetul Marmatiei, Maramuresh district, Romania, recalls the place where Wiesel was born. Metamorphosed and leading towards the second theme, this melody symbolizes Life. The second theme, inspired by the song From Suffering Through Hope To Victory, which Jews murmured in the concentration camps, symbolizes Death.
