Over the course of the past four years, ATTLAS has become one of mau5trap’s most celebrated artists. Canadian musician Jeff Hartford’s enthusiasm for music began at a young age, he grew up playing in bands and learning instruments like piano, trumpet, and guitar. His immersion in songwriting continued to grow when he attended university, and he interned for a composer after completing his courses. It was during this time that he started applying the techniques he’d learned in the studio to electronic music and began sending his completed works to deadmau5’s mau5trap label. The label initially signed a few tracks and then ATTLAS as an artist, and Hartford released three EPs in 2015 via the Canadian imprint. In the years since then, he’s delivered singles, EPs, and remixes – all showcasing the textured, introspective sound he’s spent years cultivating.

Mat Zo and Olan unveil their live version of ‘Problems’, taken from Mat’s latest artist album ‘Illusion of Depth’.

‘Illusion Of Depth’, released last October, was a pick-n’-mix of styles. It begins with the brash ‘In Media Res’, next, an ode to 90’s warehouse techno: ‘The Next Chapter’ featuring legendary Jungle/DnB MC, GQ. Then, all of a sudden, ‘Love Songs’ and some French filter house. 
 
Mat Zo broke onto the scene in 2008 and has been causing an uproar ever since. In the early 00’s, he penned Anjunabeats classics like ‘The Lost’ and ‘Synapse Dynamics’ which were far ahead of their time. They were followed by the likes of ‘Superman’, ‘The Sky’, and ‘Rebound’ (with Arty). He pushed the Anjunabeats sound to the mainstage, racking up spins from Pete Tong, Axwell, and Armin van Buuren. 
 
It was his GRAMMY-nominated debut album ‘Damage Control’ that fully showcased Mat’s avant-garde approach in 2013. Featuring break-out hit ‘Easy’ with close friend Porter Robinson, the track took Mat mainstream: a Radio 1 A-List addition, Sirius XM BPM listing, a #1 Billboard Heatseeking record, an Essential Mix of the year nomination, and, ultimately, a GRAMMY nom for the best electronic album.  

Since the album’s release, Mat has taken his ‘Illusion of Depth’ tour online, hosting a series of virtual raves in Minecraft.

Recorded last summer, Mat has teamed up with Atlanta-based musician, vocalist and producer Olan for a special live version of ‘Problems’. Olan has worked with Mat for several years, and contributed vocals to the album tracks ‘Problems’, ‘Colours’ and ‘Paralysis’.

"Most of the songs that Olan & I made on 'Illusion of Depth' were written in this style. We essentially started with a full song, and then remixed it. The original Live Version of 'Problems' was done with VST drums, so to mark the release we decided to re-record everything with real drums - played by me!
