Anjunabeats is pleased to unveil the debut artist album from Trance Wax - an alias of Belfast’s Garry McCartney, also known as Ejeca.
Celebrating the formative sounds that Garry and his childhood friends - and sometime collaborators - Bicep first fell in love with as Belfast teenagers, Trance Wax began as an anonymous series of vinyl-only bootlegs back in 2015.

Tapping into the deep love of trance across the dance community, Garry’s lovingly crafted edits of classics from Yves Deyurter, BT and Mauro Picotto became peak-time anthems for Bicep, Nina Kraviz, Denis Sulta, The Blessed Madonna, Job Jobse to name a few. Each vinyl run sold out in hours. Copies on Discogs often sold for hundreds of pounds. Resident Advisor described the edits as “somewhere between Shed and Evian Christ”. BBC Radio 1 commissioned Trance Wax for a hallowed Essential Mix in mid-2018. The collective nostalgia for trance - a foundational force in emotional dance music - was well and truly awoken.

It was no surprise, then, that Garry found his way to London’s trance standard-bearer: Anjunabeats.

The connection began when Trance Wax edited two classics from the Anjunabeats vault, ‘Clear Blue Water’ and ’Satellite, both from Above & Beyond’s much-loved OceanLab project. Trance Wax was invited to support Above & Beyond at two sold-out shows at London’s Printworks, his distinctive breakbeat-nodding take on classic trance striking a chord with the Anjuna fanbase and the Anjunabeats label team! As the relationship grew, Garry’s creative urge to explore the Trance Wax influences more fully was nurtured. An album deal was inked.

The result is a stirring, self-titled LP debut from Trance Wax featuring 14 original compositions. The album is a celebration of communal euphoria and a love-letter to the golden age of trance - arguably European dance music’s most fertile period - through the eyes of a modern production star at the top of his game.

You’ll hear a touch of early Chicane with a dash of modern Bicep in ‘Beul En Latha’ - a Gaelic term for ‘sunrise’ - while tracks like ‘Throne’ and album closer ‘Northern Sky’ are a nod to The Future Sound Of London. Endorsed by Mistajam and Danny Howard at BBC Radio 1, ‘Lifeline’ is a sweaty, Balearic piano-house cut, made for marathon sessions on the Space Ibiza terrace. ‘Manaya’ is Trance Wax’s homage to the uplifting sound of early 00’s Eurotrance, and has already managed to find its way into the sets of Above & Beyond and Armin van Buuren.

Garry has also enlisted some trance royalty for the album. Moya Brennan, the iconic voice of Chicane’s ‘Saltwater’, provides the vocals for ‘Rivers’, whilst Jan Johnston guests on ‘Nitedream’ - unlocking memories of her classic ‘Skydive’ with Freefall.

Earlier this year, emotive imprint Anjunadeep welcomed We Are The Brave label boss Alan Fitzpatrick to the fold with his single ‘Warning Signs’. A deviation from his typical sound, the track saw Fitzpatrick experiment with deeper and more soulful influences from across electronica, breakbeat, dub and house. ‘The Remixes’ package, out in July, features a new remix from Italian-born, Berlin-based duo, Mind Against. Stalwarts of Tale Of Us’ Afterlife label, the pair’s techno roots and flair for seamlessly mixing gentle percussion with vibrant synths makes for an emotive and stirring rework.

Trance Wax, aka Ejeca, returns to Anjunabeats with a rework of OceanLab’s 2003 anthem, ‘Satellite’.

This is Trance Wax’s second OceanLab edit: ‘Clear Blue Water’, released in April, was described by Resident Advisor as "ethereal and addictive” and attracted support from big room heavyweights and cratediggers alike. This is the second official label release for Ejeca’s throwback edits project, the bulk of his work exists only on white label vinyl.

His latest reboot unashamedly embraces the euphoric tenor of yesteryear while a dusty broken beat takes aim modern dancefloors.

One of Belfast's finest musical exports, DJ and producer Garry McCartney has become a prominent figure in the melodic techno world. 

Releases on Sasha's Last Night on Earth, Shall Not Fade, Tusk Wax, Aus and BPitch Control has made him a mainstay of the U.K. house and techno scene, with a recent BBC Radio 1 Hottest Record nod for 'Ekstac' from Annie Mac. 

While Ejeca soared on the underground scene, it was another passion project that drew Garry’s attention in the studio; Trance Wax. 

Growing up in an era where trance and progressive artists Sasha, Chicane and Paul Oakenfold were household pop music names, Garry was inspired to recut nostalgic rave hits to fit the eclectic environment of modern dance floors. 

The vinyl-only pressings worked their way into the record boxes of The Black Madonna, Bicep, Job Jobse and Denis Sulta, found radio support from the likes of B Traits and Danny Howard, and earned him a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix in 2018 - providing end of the night moments for a generation of artists who fondly remember dance music’s golden era. 

His first digital remixes arrived in 2019, reworking Above & Beyond pres. OceanLab's 'Clear Blue Water' and 'Satellite', supporting the Anjunabeats head honchos at two sold out London Printwork shows.

Taking Trance Wax to the next level, we're proud to present his debut original release, the 'Manaya EP'.

Showing three sides to the Trance Wax sound, the EP draws heavily on turn of the millenia dance music culture. There’s a headsy The Future Sound Of London trip with ‘Northern Sky’, already a Friday fire record on Danny Howard’s BBC Radio 1 show.

A global talent whose music has far surpassed the borders of his hometown of Newcastle, Cristoph’s high-powered productions have seen support from the likes of Pete Tong, Eric Prydz, Hot Since 82, Sasha, Camelphat and Denis Sulta. Having released on a range of heavyweight labels including Pryda Present’s and Knee Deep In Sound, Cristoph now makes his debut on London tastemaker label Anjunadeep.

An assertive club-track that blends the progressive and deep house worlds, ‘Big H 2020’ is a revamp of Cristoph’s 2013 release ‘Big H’. Whilst reminiscent of tracks from label acts such as Yotto and Tinlicker in its dark vocal cuts and rolling drums, ‘Big H 2020’ also showcases Cristoph’s penchant for captivating songwriting in its infectious piano hook. Speaking on his songwriting process, Cristoph explains:

“I like my music to have this driving nature paired with an emotional breakdown to build up and come out of. It’s what I remember classic progressive house was like with regards to artists like Sasha and Digweed. I was just a young kid listening to their stuff and that’s exactly what I’m trying to deliver with my work.”

This classic progressive house affinity has seen Cristoph create some of the biggest dance hits of past years, including 2019 single ‘Breathe’, which has since accumulated 58M streams on Spotify, and inspired a slew of remixes. Fittingly, ‘Big H 2020’ looks to continue this trend whilst simultaneously paying homage to Cristoph’s father: 

“Big H was what I used to call my Dad. He was my hero in life and my best mate. We had a plan to break into the ‘DJ world’ and hopefully tour the world. Anjunabeats is pleased to unveil the debut artist album from Trance Wax - an alias of Belfast’s Garry McCartney, also known as Ejeca.
Celebrating the formative sounds that Garry and his childhood friends - and sometime collaborators - Bicep first fell in love with as Belfast teenagers, Trance Wax began as an anonymous series of vinyl-only bootlegs back in 2015.

Tapping into the deep love of trance across the dance community, Garry’s lovingly crafted edits of classics from Yves Deyurter, BT and Mauro Picotto became peak-time anthems for Bicep, Nina Kraviz, Denis Sulta, The Blessed Madonna, Job Jobse to name a few. Each vinyl run sold out in hours. Copies on Discogs often sold for hundreds of pounds. Resident Advisor described the edits as “somewhere between Shed and Evian Christ”. BBC Radio 1 commissioned Trance Wax for a hallowed Essential Mix in mid-2018. The collective nostalgia for trance - a foundational force in emotional dance music - was well and truly awoken.

It was no surprise, then, that Garry found his way to London’s trance standard-bearer: Anjunabeats.

The connection began when Trance Wax edited two classics from the Anjunabeats vault, ‘Clear Blue Water’ and ’Satellite, both from Above & Beyond’s much-loved OceanLab project. Trance Wax was invited to support Above & Beyond at two sold-out shows at London’s Printworks, his distinctive breakbeat-nodding take on classic trance striking a chord with the Anjuna fanbase and the Anjunabeats label team! As the relationship grew, Garry’s creative urge to explore the Trance Wax influences more fully was nurtured. An album deal was inked.

The result is a stirring, self-titled LP debut from Trance Wax featuring 14 original compositions. The album is a celebration of communal euphoria and a love-letter to the golden age of trance - arguably European dance music’s most fertile period - through the eyes of a modern production star at the top of his game.

You’ll hear a touch of early Chicane with a dash of modern Bicep in ‘Beul En Latha’ - a Gaelic term for ‘sunrise’ - while tracks like ‘Throne’ and album closer ‘Northern Sky’ are a nod to The Future Sound Of London. Endorsed by Mistajam and Danny Howard at BBC Radio 1, ‘Lifeline’ is a sweaty, Balearic piano-house cut, made for marathon sessions on the Space Ibiza terrace. ‘Manaya’ is Trance Wax’s homage to the uplifting sound of early 00’s Eurotrance, and has already managed to find its way into the sets of Above & Beyond and Armin van Buuren.

Garry has also enlisted some trance royalty for the album. Moya Brennan, the iconic voice of Chicane’s ‘Saltwater’, provides the vocals for ‘Rivers’, whilst Jan Johnston guests on ‘Nitedream’ - unlocking memories of her classic ‘Skydive’ with Freefall.
