UK heavyweight Skream provides a hard-hitting rework of Trance Wax’s ‘El Nido’.

Oliver Jones, aka Skream, has been at the leading edge of UK dance music for fifteen years. An early dubstep pioneer, Skream’s musical journey has seen him collaborate with the likes of La Roux, Rudimental, Katy B, Alan Fitzpatrick and Dennis Ferrer.

Skream has also seen success as part of supergroup Magnetic Man, alongside fellow dubstep artists Benga and Artwork. His music has featured in British TV series Skins, and he has produced several Essential Mixes for BBC Radio 1.

Few artists can completely change their sound and maintain momentum, but Skream has managed to do exactly that. He moved away from dubstep in the early 2010’s, incorporating house, dub and techno influences into his sound and landing releases on Defected Records, Asylum Records, Crosstown Rebels and more.

This remix is his first release on Anjunabeats, and we are delighted to welcome him to the family.

Trance Wax is an alias of Belfast-born producer Garry McCartney, also known as Ejeca. Celebrating the music he fell in love with as a teenager, his Trance Wax project began as an anonymous series of vinyl-only bootlegs back in 2015. Garry’s lovingly crafted edits of classics from Yves Deyurter, BT and Mauro Picotto became peak-time anthems for Bicep, Nina Kraviz, Denis Sulta, The Blessed Madonna and Job Jobse to name a few. A BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix followed soon after.

Two Trance Wax edits of Above & Beyond’s much-loved OceanLab project were released on Anjunabeats in 2019, with the debut Trance Wax album following in November 2020. Garry joined Above & Beyond at their Group Therapy 450 milestone show in September 2021.

After being known from the more melodic side of electronic music, Scottish producer https://soundcloud.com/obviouslydan delves into fast-paced, grin inducing melodic techno with his ‘Pearls EP’.

The lead track ‘Pearls’ is led by an infectious, gritty flute motif that grabs your ears and almost forces you to smile with how happy and bouncy it feels. Underpinned with a thumping drum track and a big, bold bass line, this peak time record is a club anthem in the making. 

‘Byson’, on the flip-side is just as club ready as ‘Pearls’ but with a few more of the melodic elements that we’re used to, from an obviouslydan record. Reverbed vocal snippets dance over classic sounding piano stabs, supported by yet another big old bass line.
