Reflections welcomes back Stelios Vassiloudis, with his brand new EP ‘XY/YX’.

Stelios Vassiloudis is a versatile composer, producer, and DJ from Athens who has been active in electronic music since the early 2000s. Classically trained with degrees in acoustical engineering and composition, Stelios has a diverse musical background and is able to create a unique sound blending electronic soundscapes, harmonies, and rhythms.

His first release on Reflections last year, the 'Permanent EP,' delves into the various elements of his musical palette, encompassing Trip Hop, Electronica, Jazz, and Downtempo sounds.

‘XY/YX’ is a series of four tracks, created to help you unwind and relax:

“I wrote this EP exclusively while on the road over a period of 4-5 months. I was bouncing from trains, to planes, to hotels and clubs across Asia, South America and Europe, and needed to find ways to channel my creative energy. During my travels I was using a very stripped down and basic working setup. I think the rawness and immediacy really translates to the production of the tracks themselves.”

As sister label to the Meanwhile behemoth, the Horizons offshoot continues to expose listeners to a dynamic and varied sonic portfolio. Heralding a new release that captures the essence of the Meanwhile Horizons sound, Weird Sounding Dude now delivers “Passing Thoughts”, a sparkling musical narrative that navigates a clear path through the serene blue waters of glistening melody and rolling rhythmic waves.

A best-selling artist who regularly finds himself in the upper echelons of the Organic and Progressive House charts, Weird Sounding Dude is a favourite on esteemed imprints including Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden and Armen Miran’s Hoomidaas.

Making his Meanwhile Horizons debut, “Passing Thoughts” encapsulates the Bangalore based artist’s penchant for chunky grooves and rich melodic layers. Evolving over a smooth 8-minutes, a syncopated melody sits snugly against the percussive top-line and 8th note bassline. Elegant chord progressions drift enticingly across proceedings, exposed fully at the beatless breakdown before the title track hits its stride once more in the latter stages.

“Doorway to Amatsu” continues the melodic and rhythmic foundation as an arpeggiated sequence sits perfectly atop ticking hit-hat percussion and powerful metronomic beat. Breaking up the mesmerising repeated motif, white-noise swells and beautifully constructed pads pulsate gently in sonic waves, particularly at the stripped back mid-point before the tracks picks up the pace once more in the second half.

The final track sees “Explorer To Mars” entice listeners with a smorgasbord of elegantly sculpted counterpoint melodies that captivate with a stunning and effortless vibrancy. A clicking percussive groove provides dynamism as it sits in exquisite harmony with shaker urgency and swung groove. White-noise risers add layers of atmosphere as another sonic marvel becomes a timeless classic.

Lithuanian producer Mark Novas, previously RE/BORN, releases 'Sweet Mistake EP' as his second solo artist release. The title track was premiered on flagship label compilation Anjunadeep 14 in April this year, selected by Jody Wisternoff and label boss James Grant, and has since clocked over 320k streams across DSP's whilst being supported by label-favourite artists such as Qrion.

'Sweet Mistake' is a warm, stripped back deep house track featuring Mark's own vocals and a stirring lead line. The release follows this with 'Give Me A Feeling', a powerful breakbeat cut driven by a dark, distorted bassline, emotive strings and an ear catching vocal sample. Novas skilfully ties together striking melodic composition with an impressive and inviting depth to his productions, making the release an exciting sign of what's to come from the up-and-coming artist.

'Sweet Mistake EP' is out 20th October on Anjunadeep.

"Wanderlust" started out as a cinematic sketch, with the intention of it being a birthday gift. It was never meant to end up on the EP, however, after some experimentation I liked the track so much that I decided to append it to the existing tracks and make it the 5th on the EP.
