“It all began when one of us was Leaving Laurel”.

For Pierce and Gordon of Leaving Laurel, their music is a story of an old friendship that over many years, almost accidentally, blossomed into a musical collaboration.  Friends on the internet first, and eventually roommates in Los Angeles, the pair spent years together making their own separate brands of dance music, long before ever collaborating with one another. Gordon was one half of bass heavy duo Botnek, whilst Pierce found fame and toured the world with his solo project.

One day in Laurel Canyon, California, the pair were sharing their own unfinished music with one another. Pierce had an idea for a demo of Gordon’s, which spawned an impromptu writing session lasting the rest of the day.  Elated by what had just happened, they continued to write together over the coming weeks, but just as they were getting new momentum, Pierce had to head back to his home on the east coast.  The final song they wrote together before his flight was called ‘Leaving Laurel’. The music Pierce and Gordon made together is rich with emotion, densely packed with atmosphere and often featured Gordon’s own gentle vocals. 

Pierce always envisioned the music they made together in California as an album, and after having released many of their early songs over the past year on Anjunadeep, they set out to finish everything they had started during that time. In revisiting the rest of their ideas from that era, they had realized - it all felt like one moment in time. One feeling. One chapter. The pair finished their debut album at the start of 2021, just prior to a horrible tragedy.

Pierce passed away in April of this year after a tragic struggle with his mental health. This album is dedicated to his memory, and has come to represent much more than two friends making music together in the Laurel Canyon neighbourhood of Los Angeles. The album announcement comes with today’s release of ‘Winter In The Woods’, a track inspired by the duo’s time isolated in the woods of Connecticut & Vermont. Pierce’s struggles were very private, and with this album Gordon and Pierce’s brother and manager Griff want to let the world know simply this: 

It’s ok to not be ok.  

It’s for anyone who can relate to his pain, and to know you are not alone.

‘Erased Dreams’ is the first full-length, low-tempo project from Yotto. The Helsinki-based artist is well-known for his thunderous DJ sets and deep, bass-heavy house productions, but with ‘Erased Dreams’, Yotto reveals another side to himself.

The 8-track ambient album, released on Anjunadeep’s new sister label Reflections, may seem like a departure from Yotto’s usual style, but he’s always made music like this. With Reflections, he finally found a home for it.

Throughout his sparkling career, which includes a Billboard #1 LP and official remixes for artists like Joris Voorn, Gorillaz, and Coldplay, Yotto has produced ambient tracks to help him look inward and recharge his creative battery. But when COVID hit, his inner world took over. “At first, I was being really productive with club music,” Yotto says, speaking from his home in Helsinki. “But then after a while, I started making something completely opposite.” Yotto found himself exploring a different form of expression, and didn’t have a plan other than to create. But when he put the tracks side-by-side in a playlist he recognized a synergy, and the outline of the project began to take shape.

The result is more of a continuous soundscape than an album; an ethereal and dreamy experience designed to accompany the listener as they turn inward and drift away. If club music is a form of escape, then this is too – but instead of turning outward, we lose ourselves inward.

The structure was inspired by The KLF’s 1990 album Chill Out – a concept album written as a sonic journal to document the band’s road trip across America. Yotto says ‘Erased Dreams’ is structured like a journal, too, and acts as a documentation of his inner workings and sentiments during the lockdown. So it makes sense that an over-arching theme is one of repetition and continuity.

Yotto found the experience of creating this album surprisingly liberating. He spent his whole career being defined by a certain sound, and with ‘Erased Dreams’ he’s revealing how much more there is to him as an artist – a sentiment that’s reflected in the album title. “This music usually gets deleted or erased or pushed to the side because I’m focusing on something clubby,” he says. “And it all sounds very dreamy and nostalgic.”

There’s a common string tying every track in ‘Erased Dreams’ together – the same one that ties Yotto’s ambient and club productions. There’s a crispness and simplicity to his style that makes all of his work instantly recognisable and undeniably Yotto.

Club music will always be at the core of Yotto’s work, but his ambient catalog will no longer sit in the shadows. Together, these parallel forms of expression don’t dilute Yotto’s artistry; they make it even stronger.

GRAMMY-nominated producer and songwriter Steven Weston returns to Anjunadeep with his three-track EP ‘Luminous Cloud’.

Steven debuted on Anjunadeep last year with his ‘Alter The Flow EP’ featuring the hit track ‘Like I Used To’ with Låpsley, which has over 3 million streams and support on SiriusXM Chill. This adds to his impressive catalogue including work on Rudimental’s third album 'Toast to Our Differences’ with artists like Charli XCX, Ladyhawke and Mikki Ekko.

The EP opens with ‘Nimbus’, led by syncopated leads and percussion-driven grooves. ‘You’ and ‘Same Dream’ feature stunning vocals from Taė, who has collaborated with Steven before on tracks like ‘One More Time’ and ‘Everything Is Beautiful’. Steven’s latest demonstrates why he’s been supported by John Digweed, Above & Beyond and Kyau & Albert.

Few artists put such emphasis on allowing their DJ craft to inform their studio output. With a passion for extended live sets, Spencer blurs the lines between deep house, progressive and trance to keep those performances fresh and clubbers locked in from start to close.

Meticulously crafted through no fewer than 329 revisions, ‘Stream of Consciousness’ is a wide-ranging exploration of Spencer’s sound in 2019. From the serene soundscape of ‘SF to Berlin’ alongside label-mate and regular studio partner Ben Böhmer, to the peak-time progressive energy of Wilt Claybourne collaboration ‘Womaa’, the energy ebbs and flows, but never loosens its grip.
Spencer applies his own spin to breakbeat with ‘Chance On Us’, while ‘Pursuance’ with rising Anjunadeep star Marsh is a 90’s-flavoured rave cut.

Spencer explains his love of the mix format…
“The mix album took 329 revisions to finalise. I’m a control freak with my mixes—it’s deeply ingrained in my creative process. With that in mind, I didn’t send any tracks to anyone for mix help, and I created and mixed 100% of the final product. Creating an album of radio-edited singles has never interested me creatively. I prefer to craft music that keeps my listener in a flow state—working, studying, travelling, exercising, dancing, whatever it may be. I conceived my album as one carefully mixed piece: an hour and change of continuous music. It’s a collection of tracks I wrote from 2015 to 2019, inspired by the majesty of nature, missing a loved one, and the ups and downs of touring—all bundled into a single Stream of Consciousness.”
