“It all began when one of us was Leaving Laurel”.

For Pierce and Gordon of Leaving Laurel, their music is a story of an old friendship that over many years, almost accidentally, blossomed into a musical collaboration.  Friends on the internet first, and eventually roommates in Los Angeles, the pair spent years together making their own separate brands of dance music, long before ever collaborating with one another. Gordon was one half of bass heavy duo Botnek, whilst Pierce found fame and toured the world with his solo project.

One day in Laurel Canyon, California, the pair were sharing their own unfinished music with one another. Pierce had an idea for a demo of Gordon’s, which spawned an impromptu writing session lasting the rest of the day.  Elated by what had just happened, they continued to write together over the coming weeks, but just as they were getting new momentum, Pierce had to head back to his home on the east coast.  The final song they wrote together before his flight was called ‘Leaving Laurel’. The music Pierce and Gordon made together is rich with emotion, densely packed with atmosphere and often featured Gordon’s own gentle vocals. 

Pierce always envisioned the music they made together in California as an album, and after having released many of their early songs over the past year on Anjunadeep, they set out to finish everything they had started during that time. In revisiting the rest of their ideas from that era, they had realized - it all felt like one moment in time. One feeling. One chapter. The pair finished their debut album at the start of 2021, just prior to a horrible tragedy.

Pierce passed away in April of this year after a tragic struggle with his mental health. This album is dedicated to his memory, and has come to represent much more than two friends making music together in the Laurel Canyon neighbourhood of Los Angeles. The album announcement comes with today’s release of ‘Winter In The Woods’, a track inspired by the duo’s time isolated in the woods of Connecticut & Vermont. Pierce’s struggles were very private, and with this album Gordon and Pierce’s brother and manager Griff want to let the world know simply this: 

It’s ok to not be ok.  

It’s for anyone who can relate to his pain, and to know you are not alone.

‘better days will come’ is the third single taken from Leaving Laurel’s upcoming sophomore album ‘when the quiet comes’, out May 19 via Anjunadeep.

The single marries soft piano melodies with expansive pads and a driving beat, and is aptly titled; perfectly capturing the poignant sentiment at the heart of the upcoming record, which follows the loss of esteemed producer Pierce Fulton and marks a new chapter for band members, his brother Griff Fulton, and friend, Gordon Huntley. In discovering recordings made by Pierce years prior, Huntley has set out to finish what they started together and given life to forgotten ideas, impressing an affecting sense of hope upon the listener, and providing a cathartic sense of closure for himself;

"Making this record was my search to find purpose after Pierce passed. It was a light to show me a way forward. A way for me to grieve, a way for me to hold onto the memories. A eulogy to my friend.”

A tale of two old friends, Gordon and Pierce, Leaving Laurel connected the duo musically for the first time after being close friends for almost a decade. Since their debut release in 2020, the duo have garnered a fervent fanbase and widespread support. Previous singles and Leaving Laurel’s preceding EP ‘fireflies (for as far as we could see)’ have received an overwhelmingly warm reception from fans and tastemakers alike, including Black Coffee, Joris Voorn, Sultan + Shepard and David Hohme, as well as further radio support from BBC Radio 1 and SiriusXM, where ‘fireflies (for as far as we could see)’ EP has clocked over 175 spins to date.

The Loving Awareness Mix of PRAANA and LEVV's 'I Am' is here. 

Premiered as part of PRAANA's mix on Volume Two of Colorize's 'Colorscapes' compilation, the Loving Awareness mix is a mesmerising rework of the pairing's single 'I Am' which was released earlier this year. 

Eschewing the more bass-heavy and driving elements of the original, PRAANA and LEVV take a softer approach on the Loving Awareness Mix. Audrey's breathtaking vocals glide delicately over sprawling synths that exist in a sublime sonic landscape - a truly serene end to 2020 from PRAANA.

'Torn' is a driving progressive production in classic Matt Fax style, with effervescent synths layered over a hypnotic rhythm section. 'Wonder' sees him explore a softer, more ethereal sound, with delicate percussion, mesmerising vocal snippets and breathtaking synth pads fusing together to create a transcendent track.
