With his work spanning some 15 years of commercial releases, the Dutch master is a welcome returnee to Meanwhile with a stellar quartet of original tracks.

A regular across the industry’s finest purveyors of modern and cerebral progressive house music, Alex O’Rion has constantly found his music featured on such esteemed imprints as Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat, Guy J’s Lost & Found and Nick Warren’s Hope. A regular visitor to the upper echelons of the Beatport charts, over a million Spotify streams in 2020 and 4,000 followers points to broad appeal and wide-ranging support.

Now returning to Meanwhile after a trio of remixes for label head-honchos GMJ & Matter on June 2020’s “Gauntlet” and February 2021’s “The Path”, Alex O’Rion now returns to the label with a devastating 4-track original EP of unrivalled quality.

The “Echium” title track is a blistering sub-bass monster that drives along powerfully on a bed of ticking hi-hats and chest-thumping kick. Building in momentum, smooth pads and effortless synth lines flow across the 8-minute piece before revelling in a stripped-back breakdown. Picking up the pace again in the third movement, gorgeous harmonic overtones layer delicately across each other, borne of never-ending delay sweeps.

“Stranded” continues the powerful rhythmic narrative and otherworldly sonic landscape before a percussive loop provides subtle melodic phrasing. Shifting synth sequences bisect the left-right spectrum as waves of white noise fall against a rocky outcrop of percussive hats. Melodic lines continue to evolve in delicate patterns into the second half in a sonic palette of sheer bliss.

A sumptuous bassline groove propels “The Chase” through its hypnotic paces, accompanied by a chugging rhythmic backdrop. Simultaneously, gentle synth motifs pulsate in side-chained synchronicity as a rich symphony of sound swells into the second half against a plucked earworm phrase. The result is a dynamic and devastating club-friendly track that is sure to inspire a multitude of hands-in-the-air moments.

“The Serpent” ends the quadrilogy with its rippling sound effects that cascade in spiral patterns against a melodious foreground. Delicate percussive patterns marry with a deep resonant kick to provide a rhythmic anchor, giving freeform synth motifs the opportunity to express a meandering sonic voyage that reaches a powerful crescendo at the midpoint. Hitting its stride again in the third movement with additional melodic sequencing, the result is a charismatic end to an outstanding original EP."

Serious Dancers  return to Univack one year after their successful first release on this label, titled 'Sabase Pahale'. Serious Dancers are ones of the most representative names in the Organic House music scene nowadays. This time they show a track closer to Progressive House, but still loyal to their particular style, characterized by solid beats, hypnotic and evocative melodies, and cinematic  elements.

The EP is completed by the awesome remix from the most representative DJ in the worldwide Progressive House scene for the last two decades, el maestro Hernan Cattaneo, in collaboration with the also experienced DJ & producer Simply City. This remix is the second release of both artists on Univack, and another evidence of their perfect symbiosis when they make music together.

Dutch artist Alex O'Rion's new album 'Nostalgia' blends different music styles, combining grooves, organic elements, and progressive sounds for a soulful journey with a playful nod to earlier electronic music. Globally respected for his uplifting releases on labels spanning from Guy J's Lost & Found to Hernan Cattaneo's SUDBEAT, Alex has also shared his music through Anjunadeep, Meanwhile, Movement, and has been featured on compilations by iconic brands like Global Underground. This album marks a natural evolution in Alex's career. Over the past 18 months, he was in the studio on an almost daily basis. Moreover, he brought the album on the road, drawing inspiration from the sights and sounds of his travels. As a touring DJ, Alex has graced stages with headline sets across the globe, spanning from South America to Australia. The laidback warmth from these exotic destinations resonates within the immersive sound of this album. The album is drenched in atmospheric vibes, yet retains the dance floor-focused energy that is the trademark sound of his uplifting style. Working on the album allowed Alex to break away from his normal routines of producing bite-sized chunks of music that were released as singles or EPs, giving him the broad freedom to truly uncover the music that always resided within him. In Alex's own words: "The album 'Nostalgia' gets its name because it reflects a sentiment that has grown stronger as I've aged. Fondly reminiscing about the music of a younger me, I often sense a certain soulfulness lacking in today's electronic music. In an attempt to explore this feeling, I went on a bit of a self-reset and a touch of reinvention. This involved changing my usual routines and adopting some old-school methods, such as sampling beats and instruments from vintage vinyl records, blending them with my current sound. The album is intended to feel personal and intimate for my listeners. I aimed to create a moment of intimacy, as if they are listening to the songs alongside me while on their way home."

'Operating out of his Cordoba home at the base of the Sierras Chicas, Sebastian Sellares has been a consistently impressive performer with a string of high-profile releases. A 2018 debut for PHW Elements was soon followed by work for MNL, UV and August 2020's three-track "Cordoba" EP for onedotsixtwo. Inspired by the likes of Depeche Mode and Daft Punk, his music has received support from a raft of high-rollers that include Cid Inc., Aly and Fila, and fellow countryman, Hernan Cattaneo. A Proton Music debut remixing Hot TuneiK's "Circles of You" in June 2019 is now followed by a twin-track debut that opens with the sparkling "Jinsei". Redolent in dynamic percussive rhythms, a similarly cadenced synth line and syncopated bassline provide additional groove before an earworm motif reveals itself. Waxing and waning over the 11-minute magnum opus, counterpoint string phrasing adds subtlety and guile. The rhythmic prowess of "Zen State" is immediately apparent as a sumptuous bassline supplies depth with its gated pattern. Before long, a richly delayed synth line makes an appearance that repeats pre and post-breakdown while an additional free-flowing synth and smooth pad captures a joyous mood.'

Following the release of his double-cut ‘Venus / Trondheim’, which saw support from the likes of Eelke Kleijn, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, Dutch producer Nordfold returns to Anjunadeep with his four-track ‘Down Memory Lane EP’.
 
Opening the EP is title-track ‘Down Memory Lane’, leading with soft piano melodies and vocal stabs. ‘Rituals’ features breakbeat drums whilst ‘Andes’ is filled with intricate percussive rhythms. Closing the EP is ‘Pause Sunset’, showcasing Nordfold's characteristic sound design, which has previously been championed by Phil Taggart on BBC Radio 1.
