Berlin’s Ryan Davis has carved out a niche all of his own over the past 10 years, releasing exquisite melodic techno and electronica on revered labels Bedrock, Traum, and his own Klangwelt label. Along the way he’s been championed by Sasha, Stephan Bodzin, Hernan Cattaneo and John Digweed, and collaborated with Max Cooper and Applescal. The ‘From Within EP’ marks his first original release on Anjunadeep following memorable remixes of Andrew Bayer and Olafur Arnalds.

The cinematic ‘Paper Rockets’ begins the EP in subtle fashion, showcasing Ryan’s talent for intricate production and mellow moods. ‘Brun’ a stand-out from last year’s ‘Anjunadeep 07’ compilation has the hallmarks of an Anjunadeep classic, combining club-ready sounds with emotional melodies that tug at the heart-strings.

‘Crawne’ takes things deeper and darker, blending a chugging slo-mo groove with spacey atmospherics. Ryan takes things full techno on ‘Undine’ a peak-time cut laced with dystopian soundscape and driving drums. We return to cinematic ambience on EP closer ‘Beyar’, a stunning slice of deft melodies and vivid celestial samples.

We live at a time when distractions from reality are never further away than our fingertips. Our phones offer us unlimited stimulation and temporary comfort. The possibilities of technology are endless, but they also limit the possibility…the possibility to truly experience and submit to the moment.

For me, going to a club has always been about letting go of the world around me, like a vacation from the nagging realities of everyday life. In the best clubs I have been to, the people were united by a desire to experience electronic music in the purest sense; to get lost in its tension and release. No matter what was going on in their lives, it was a place where, for at least a few hours, nothing else mattered but the sheer power music had to bring people joy. And those experiences - held only by those in that room, at that moment - were almost like the reward to submitting to a secret society. At the end of the night, I could look at my friends, old and new, and without saying a single word, we'd know that what we experienced together was something special, something that would never quite be repeated again.

Some of my early clubbing experiences have stayed with me for my entire life. They are why I'm doing what I'm doing today. There is not a photo, forum thread or social media post in existence to mark their happening, but the memories, the emotions I felt, the way those nights changed my life - those things stay with me to this day.

Somewhere along the way, we as a society have lost the ability to experience those special moments. On the rare occasion that they do happen, we scramble to grab our phones in time to capture them - but those moments cannot be truly captured - and they don’t need to be broadcasted or recorded. Sometimes, the best thing we can do is fully appreciate what is happening in that room, at that moment, with those people around us. 

I think our society needs clubbing experiences where they go home with more than just a picture to post on instagram. That's why I'm starting This Never Happened - I want to create that experience for people.

At This Never Happened, we invite you into a space where the only thing that matters are the people in that room, the music and the magic that happens when those things interact. An event where the dancefloor will be a phone and photo-free space.

This experience we share together may, by 2016 standards, have never happened. But those who dare will always know - something special did happen here. 

The first show will be a return to my hometown of San Francisco on 3 June at Mezzanine. It's a venue I've dreamed of headlining for many years and the perfect place to start this new chapter. If we can make this happen - and work - together, there will be many, many more. 

This Never Happened will not just be the name of these events, but also the name of a new record label. This label will be the outlet for music, by me, that is inspired by and made for this experience. The first song I'm releasing is called "Fingerprint" and you can listen to it below.

Putting this project together with my team over the last 6 months triggered a creative spark in me unlike anything I've ever felt before, and I'm so excited for you guys to hear the music I've come up with during that time.

I look forward to building this concept with you :)

Energy 52’s Cafe Del Mar probably needs little introduction - first appearing in 1993 and establishing itself as one of the key tracks in European dance music culture. 

The track was voted number 1 in Mixmag’s 100 best tracks of all time, as well as occupying the same spot in a Radio 1 poll of Top 20 Dance Tracks of Last 20 Years. 

Honouring the spirit of the track, Push Communications unveil a remix project updating this classic into a 2016 context, via a killer array of contemporary talent. 

First up, Tim Engelhardt casts his spell over the original, providing an epic 10 minute journey that evokes sunset at Ibiza’s Cafe Del Mar through lush evolving sounds and textures. 

Marcel Janowsky’s remix ups the energy levels with a skippy, vibrant and dubby mix that works the source material in fresh new shapes. 

Dale Middleton’s mix is another epic affair, stretching out and giving room for the fully balearic, feet-in-the-sand Ibiza vibe. 

Düsseldorf-based Mario Da Ragnio goes for a more driving take with his rework, pushing things into a darker formation before allowing the famous arpeggiated melody to shine through.

The highly creative, Paris-based, Romanian electronic music composer and DJ, BOg, returns to Bedrock again with his dynamic 3-Track ‘Moonlight EP’. The EP’s title track and ‘0901’ are also highlights on the 67 track 5xCD  ‘John Digweed – Live In Brooklyn, Output NYC’, the forthcoming 9th edition of the much-lauded mix series.

With the ‘Moonlight EP’, BOg is raising his creative bar ever upwards, each of this trio of new musical masterpieces showcasing his unique talent. The instantly addictive melodic groove and sparkling energy of ‘Moonlight’ shows exactly what the young Romanian is capable of, with its hypnotic subtlety. ‘Eternal’ ups the energy quotient with its powerful groove and increasingly twisted arrangement and the spirited end result is no less enthralling. Finally, rounding off the package in style comes ‘0901’, introducing a deeper shade of darkness and warped funk into the proceedings, a combination that is sure to turn heads everywhere.

Having been deeply passionate about music since childhood, BOg has risen to his current prominence through releases on the likes of Crosstown Rebels and Alex Niggemann’s Soulfooled label, in addition his regular Bedrock outings. At the end of March he will also release a track on the new ‘Secret Weapons’ (Innervisions) compilation album. His DJing skills have recently seen BOg perform alongside John Digweed and Eagles & Butterflies at Mexico’s BPM Festival, and he also will support John at his forthcoming show in Bucharest at Kristal Glam Club. This summer BOg will grace the decks at the Electric Castle Festival (Romania) alongside Dixon, Ame, DJ Sneak, and other scene luminaries. A young man to keep an eye on perhaps?

Artbat combo is composed by Artur & Vitalli, two ukranian artists whom are doing great and unique electronic music. Maybe you know them by 'Uplift', the track they did together with Rafael Cerato released on Diynamic, but in this debut release on Suara they show their musical palette in three amazing original tracks. 'Trip' has potential to be the track of the night if you play it in the right moment, magic breakdown. 'Knup' reminds of old progressive house tracks with a 21st century feeling and 'Wall' is for powerful sets, a track leaded by a mental arpeggio ready to burn your brain. For remix duties we count on Simon Baker under his nickname B.K.R. with a fat bassline remix of 'Wall' and the mighty Lauer take us to the EBM golden days with an industrial post-punk influenced version of the same track. Brash, bold, rich in texture and drenched in soul, ‘Hypnotism’ is the lead off single for Glenn Morrison’s forthcoming club album ‘Dark Waters’ due in the fall of 2017.  Reflections and ruminations make for a creative release, and ‘Hypnotism’ builds upon a repeating motif - there are at moments five melodic sublayers working in good harmony.  A simple yet elegant approach with a nod to the psychedelic and goa styles, this release is a small taster of what the album holds for us.  On the B side duties is the brilliant Italian composer Dusty Kid, whose latest addition to the Fall From Grace roster comes at a perfect time, with his intelligent, melodic composition he takes the record into another world with slight hints of Glenn Morrison’s original motif.  Dusty Kid Dub remix is a twisted affair, with the abscence of the melodic arpeggiated layers being replaced with bubbly robotic blip crescendos and disjointed laser squeals.  On the final close of this release is the brilliant artist Morttagua.  A resident at Green Valley and a heavy touring artist in his native country of Brazil, his interpretation of ‘Hypnotism’ is strong for the big venues and loud soundscapes.  Rolling baselines and building melodic motifs stagger throughout the original ‘Hypnotism’ riff and this package has extremely gifted musicians essentially jamming and composing on top of riff after riff after riff. „Zwischen den Stühlen sitzen…“ ist für die meisten Musiker nicht der bequemste Ort. Oscar OZZ allerdings fühlt sich seit Jahren genau dort am wohlsten. Egal ob Deep House, Tech House, Techno oder Minimal: Hauptsache es groovt, geht ins Ohr und rockt den Dancefloor!
Seit den frühen 90er Jahren ist Oscar OZZ (früher nur Oscar) als Produzent, DJ und Labelbetreiber bis heute erfolgreich. Seine ersten Labels Karatemusik und KarateKlub genießen heute Kultstatus.
Oscar‘s Discographie ist sehr umfassend und beinhaltet bekannte Produktionen auf vielen verschiedenen Labels wie Katermukke, Supdub, Tächno, Suara, Material Series, Confused, Perc Trax, Superfancy, Beatwax, BlackFoxMusic, Damm Records. Natürlich landet ein Großteil seiner Musik auch auf den eigenen Imprints: Lordag, KarateKlub, Kol Mojito, Karatemusik, Extrasmart, Tape Select oder OZZ. Seine Gigs in den angesagtesten Clubs der Republik sowie seine Äuswärtsspiele in Mexiko, Bolivien, Spanien, Belgien, Holland, Norwegen etc. wurden auch im Nachhinein hoch gepriesen, ebenso wie regelmäßige Festival Auftritte bei z.B. beim SonneMondSterne, Sputnik Springbreak oder Summerspirit.
Auch bekannt und berüchtigt ist Oscar für seine Edits, die monatlich und kostenlos über seinen Newsletter an eine große Fangemeinde (>5000 subscriber) verteilt werden. So kamen schon Songs von James Blake, Lana Del Rey, MS MR, Caribou und vielen weiteren Künstlern in den Genuss, für die DJ-Welt veredelt zu werden.
