A piece inspired by Christopher Isherwood's writings on 1930s Berlin, the vibrant cabaret scene of the time and its total destruction by the Nazis.  A workshop by Guildhall students conducted by the lovely Dinis Sousa.

Commissioned by Thomas Fournil as part of 'Trobadors' concert at Guildhall School of Music and Drama, June 2016.  Performed by early music specialists.  For two mezzo-sopranos, hurdy-gurdy, bagpipes and fiddle.

Programme note: 'A khachkar is a type of Armenian stone carving made of traditional interweaving patterns that depict the Christian cross. in my piece Khachkar, I interweave Armenian folk songs written down by the musicologist and composer Komitas Vardapet in order to create a sonic representation of a Khachkar.'
