"I Have a Star" for soprano, piano, and string quartet.  Words and music by Robert Cunningham.   

I wrote the words as a poem one night in the early 1980s as I struggled with a severe spiritual crisis, setting it to music only years later.  The full story behind the work, including the complete text of the poem, can be found here:  http://www.robertcunninghamsmusic.com/i-have-a-star/.

The work was recorded on April 14, 2018 by soprano Lindsay Robison Killian, accompanied by violinists Charles Liu and Harry Fisher, violist Mason Haskett, cellist James Stanley, and myself at the piano.  Ms. Killian has soloed on several opera stages and with orchestras and choirs throughout the country, including the Metropolitan Opera orchestra, Utah Symphony, Cheyenne Symphony, Orchestra at Temple Square, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Salt Lake Symphony, Utah Valley Symphony, Apollo Chorus of Chicago, and Desert Choral and Symphony Orchestra in Las Vegas.  She has performed in recitals including at Lincoln Center in New York, at the Rachmaninoff Conservatory, and on the stage of the Rostov-on-Don Philharmonic, as well as in multiple cities throughout Russia and the U.S.  She is a winner of the 2000 Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, among other prestigious singing awards, a mother of four including triplets, and a nutritional, vocal, and spatial movement guide.

Olores y Colores

Painting a vivid picture in music.
In this track I explore the link between the flamenco style or palo of Tangos and the more Argeninian Tango. Although being linked in name they are very different. A Tango flamenco is more closely linked to the rumba flamenca. Its rhythm is the same as farruca and very lively. The Argentine tango shares a common ancestor, but went its own way. However, it was fun developing the transition between styles. I do that by a dramatic interruption in a Solea por Buleria. It repeats three times with the outro slightly different from the intro and interlude. 
I play three guitar parts here, one in flamenco finger picking style, the others more like the guitar trio with an alternate picking style.
