Living, breathing, banging techno from an artist defining the highly-textured new frontier of the sound in 2024.

Lindsey Wang, AKA Polygonia, has an amorphous style you could call organic—or, better yet, harmonious. She interweaves unfamiliar elements with a mercurial touch. Wang can make something completely otherworldly sound totally, well, natural. It's made her a fixture everywhere from Munich's BLITZ to major festivals like Sustain-Release and Draaimolen.

Unsurprisingly, Wang is not one to be pinned down. Be it the sound design-anchored side project Lyder, her own label QEONE, or co-producing an album's worth of experimental percussion alongside jazz drummer Simon Popp, it's fair to say her personal output matches the feverish energy of her mixes. There's multidisciplinary, and then there's Wang: Poly-disciplinary, you might say.

Wang's entry into the RA Podcast series is no different, another stellar emphasis of her artistry. RA.955 is a voyage into wild variations of texture, rhythm and feeling, guided along by the principle of endless metamorphosis. Supple driving grooves meet crinkled surfaces, scuttling hi-hats meet chattering sonics, and good luck keeping hold of a consistent drum pattern for long. Behold a living organism raised by the club and the great outdoors in equal measure.

"For this mix, I actually did something really special. I’m premiering the remixes from my Subject Detroit compilation, and I’ve also created five new tracks specifically to play in this mix. There are a couple of other tracks from some amazingly talented artists in there as well. The focus is an uptempo, danceable, but super funky techno mix – not sleepy, not slow – just Detroit style. That’s what I love to do. It’s got to be funky, but it has to have that pace and danceability."

If you ever witnessed a performance by Melvin Oliphant III aka Traxx, you know that the man is more than just your average DJ or producer. Genre-bending and constantly in a state of trance, Traxx is a unique species in our contemporary world of electronic music. All comes forth out of a endless love for music that catches his ear and instantly sets all motion in his body in progress. Seeing him play a deck-segment for the first time will probably knock you out of your shoes as his intense, expressive way of experiencing the music he plays is unparalleled. Not only are his performances not to be missed, his contribution to the Jakbeat movement via his Nation imprint amongst other affiliated labels and his own productions and collaborations are on a similar level.

In 2013 Traxx closed out the smallest stage stage of the first edition of Dekmantel Festival, to prepare the inauguration of a long-standing commitment between Nation and Dekmantel that went into it's third time this year, when Traxx got up on the decks of  the Melkweg Club to close out Saturdays Dekmantel by Night.

Nation decided to share with us in this podcast of the recording from that first night in 2013. An energy-level so intense that brought the crowd into a frenzy, while dancing in the rain.

To find ones true calling in life may possibly be the ultimate achievement for a being of conscience. However, this blessing of confidence and self assurance is one not to be wielded with abandon. How one chooses their mission, and in turn crafts the wake they leave upon the world, is the measure of which they are judged. The will of the self. Thy own desires. The road you choose. Becomes the trail you blaze. 

In her 2nd release of The Year 2020 we find Annika Wolfe boldly asserting her will in this 34 minute club-ready mission statement. Entitled 'Do What Thou Whilt,' her debut release on Dark Magnet Records is 5 tracks of crisp, and confident electro-heavy techno productions. Initially composed solely inside the box (written using software), after an unintentional year long hiatus of song writing, Wolfe returned to these songs and fleshed them out with recorded vocals and the help of her recently acquired army of machines (synthesizer and drum machine hardware). This alliance of the digital and physical manifestations of electronic pulses results in a spacious, punchy, stripped back, and thoroughly pleasing club focused experience. 'Take Me Back 2 Atlantis', a clear nod in both title and style to techno & electro pioneers Drexciya, is a deftly crafted excursion in dancefloor exuberance. Rising and falling synth lines are perfectly balanced by air-tight drum programming. Annika Wolfe's refined production is expertly crafted, with plummeting bass in all the right places. Wild, calculated and professional. Wolfe shows an enviable maturity and patience in her craft that leaves us eager to see what lies ahead. As we let the vocals on the title track 'Do What Thou Whilt' wash over us, we feel serenely hypnotized. Whatever spell she is casting on us, we are more than happy to hand over control as she bends us to her will.
