My parents were married on the Winter's Solstice, which has been a running joke ever since. They'll celebrate their 60th anniversary on December 21, 2023.  [I originally wrote and recorded this for FAWM in February, but re-recorded this today (with some lyrical tweaks) in honor of their actual anniversary!]

Storage Space Blues

Original ballad with roots in British traditional music, such as Broadside Ballads. Jack Sheppard was perhaps the first working class hero and this song tells his true story. A former apprentice, he became a successful thief (house-breaker) and man about town in 18th century London. He was caught and tried 5 times, but always escaped, even from the notorious Newgate Prison, where the court artist took his portrait (shown). He told his story while in jail, to author Daniel Defoe, who published Jack Sheppard's confession. Although he ultimately paid the price, Jack was a daring, independent spirit who inspired many works such as The Beggar's Opera, and the Three Penny Opera.
