Legendary - Futura Is A Bad Font

Composed for the KVR "One Synth Challenge" n. 186 in August 2024. Sounds generated from the free VST synth Tricent mkIII by Full Bucket Music, coupled with some instances of the VST reverb Solaris by Adam Szabo.

This track is dedicated to a very special place for me. Exactly one year ago, in this month, I was on holiday in Florence and on the second-to-last day of my stay I finally took the opportunity to visit the Church of Santa Croce in the morning. The heavily manipulated picture I've chosen as the cover was taken exactly at 9:58 AM and my composition aims to express the mixed sense of wonder, magnificence and... Stendhal's Syndrome I was feeling in those moments, while visiting this grandiose monument that also has an enormous value in the cultural history of Italy.

Fun fact: Stendhal's Syndrome phenomenon harks exactly to the sensations Stendhal himself felt after visiting Santa Croce!

James Mullen had his first day, or rather his first night in the London police force on that foggy 31 August 1888. He was excited and proud at the same time and he was scared... He shouldn't be afraid, he was a policeman after all! Nevertheless, an uneasy feeling crept over him that simply could not be suppressed. He didn't like being out at night and yet he tried not to let on that he would rather be at home in his bed than prowling through the darkest streets of London in the middle of the night... 

He turned into Buck's Row and suddenly stopped... ‘What's that...?’ He walked slowly towards the small pile in the alley. It was dark and he couldn't see his hand in front of his eyes. Only now did he realise that he had not yet lit his lamp, even though his instructor had told him to do so again and again. 

He lit his lamp and shone it in the direction of the heap on the road and immediately wished he hadn't. Staring in fear and horror, he couldn't believe what he was seeing and without realising it, he cried like he had never cried before in his life... 

‘You'll never forget your first day at the police station’ said his mum with a smile as he said goodbye to her. She was right...

In fact, no Delay or Reverb plugin was used (not even with Panagement; wet on 0%), but only the internal FX within ExtraBold. Reverbs in there are a bit long and there's literally no control over them other than wetness. Curious concept. But, hey, it all works quite well for its simplicity. All in all, pretty neat little synth with just enough control to get plenty of complexity and variety. I like it! 😎👍

This is my entry "Extra" for the 187th edition of the KVR One Synth Challenge where all sounds were generated using the Extrabold plugin inside the Ildaeil translation wrapper with a mix of free and included effects in Ableton Live 11.
I hope you enjoy it and feel free to offer any comments on how I might improve it if I do a remix for a wider release.
