Something I've been messing about with for a week or so now. It will hopefully be my final PhD portfolio piece. It's meant for an ensemble and will feature lots of improvisation.

An updated version of this piece that I've been working on for the last week or so.

Composing for this kind of ensemble is a new thing for me. This is hopefully one of the final pieces for my PhD portfolio. I just need to find a group of musicians to perform and record it for me.

Quite fitting for International Women's Day (the track was first uploaded on soundcloud (08/03), the speech is from Amelia Earhart, a great pilot from in between the two world wars. She talks about the benefits from technological advances, especially for women - fitting in the (overly?) positive view on progress of mankind of those times. Only a couple of years later, mankind would show that technology could be used for far less innocent purposes...

Recorded on the southern hemisphere spring equinox in Platypus Bay, K'gari, Australia.

We dedicate this recording to Uncle Lewis Walker, Aboriginal elder of the Wahrlabal tribe of the Bundjalung nation of Byron Bay. Uncle Lewis is a Keeper of the Ancient Songlines of the Whales. We honour the Ancestor Spirits of Bundjalung Country. We honour Uncle Lewis's Dreaming Lineage and we honour Uncle Lewis's innate understanding of the relationship between the water, the whales, the Earth and humanity. Uncle Lewis reminds us that all Earth's creatures are our brothers and sisters.

"Annemarie Borg's work is eclectic in that it traverses both mixed media and the individual/separate forms of music, words, poetry, sounds and the visual arts. As Founder of the ‘Antara Project’ Borg uses art forms as tools to deal with her main concerns: the fundamental changes in social and cultural environments and how these affect the present day and generations to come. “In today's world we have created our own challenge, are we now up to the task of facing it? In this task what is the part Artists can assume?” (AMB). Antara aims to build a louder voice through Art and will result in a compilation album and a day conference/performance later this year.
