Indeed, the VL1 is still one of the most expressive synths.   FYI, I recently released a powerful editor for his little brother the VL70m. Unfortunately I do not receive sufficient requests (yet) and it is difficult to reach out to the VL1 users  because I'm not allowed to publish info on those popular Windcontroller/sax forums.. Aside from being an awesome synth, this has to be the best music i've heard in a long time. demo or no, these sounds are incredible and beautiful

While the abilities of the VL1 are very impressive, I don't agree that the 6-string model in the Korg Kronos II is not on par if not more advanced than the VL1. Having created many of the factory patches the Korg Kronos II 6-String engin, it is equally mind blowing, imo.

Between 1990 and 1994 researchers at CCRMA Stanford collaborated with Yamaha making the VL1, VL1m, VL7 and VP1. These synthesizers set the standard for Physical Modeling technology and are yet to be rivaled by modern DSP platforms(Kyma, Tassman, Reaktor, Max/MSP, Korg Oasys-PCI, Sculpture, etc.). The VL1 series of synths remain a sound designers playground and have been used in many film and television shows. This quick demo explores the unusual reactive tones and textures of the VL1.  No external processing or FX was applied to this recording, everything you hear is direct from the synth.
