CONTEXT (AE35+KKNH) is an electro-techno unit consisting of AE35, one of Japan's leading electro producers, and KAIKOU NO HI (KKNH), who has performed numerous live shows not only as a solo artist but also as a support member of Acid Tamiya Sanshiro.
The two, each of whom are strong live performers, teamed up to perform NoPC's latest live set with two MPCs.

Their journey had taken them to the bottom of a huge range of towering mountains, each covered in a thick glistening blanket of snow. They began the steady incline up the nearest and smallest mountain, eager to find out what lay at the top. The air around was fresh and crisp, making it the perfect conditions to ascend the slopes. But as they made their move, a force stopped them in their tracks. An invisible field that they couldn't cross. They were stuck at the foothills.

Belgian producer Placid One lands on Shaw Cuts with his Heroes Of The East EP, a story of love, pride and rivalry. This marks his third EP, following releases on Ransom Note Records and Nebulae, and sees him dive head first into pulsating drums, bright pads and menacing soundscapes.

Barcelona based Carlos Sicrock, known to some simply as "Pasta" or "Carlitos", is a perfect example of how the Spanish and Catalonian cultures seem to produce such passionate Electro producers. Perhaps you could say it's a bit of a balance between having been right in the middle of the expansion of the sound through the 80's and 90's as many of the old school and new school artists of international fame have visited the region, not to mention the sound has always had its share of popularity with its people. But also that in some ways they have also been "cut off" from the true epicenters of this music, making them perfect spectators of the sound and culture.

With New York, Los Angeles, Miami and London being hotbeds for this sound and where the majority of the pioneers originated from, to some degree it could be said that aspiring artists and lovers of the sound in Spain and Catalonia couldn't help but observe in amazement as Electro grew to become such a global phenomenon, going on to influence music in general in so many ways, and giving them in particular a sense of curiosity and appreciation for the music that is evident in the productions to come from the region year after year.

Carlos remembers growing up in a large family that was very musically diverse, offering a broad enough palette of listening that everything from the sounds of James Brown to Pink Floyd, passing through Supertramp and Heavy Metal bands like Judas Priest would give him a very open mind to many styles of music. But none would impact him as much as the emerging sounds of Electro. He recalls, saying that: "I started listening to Electro, and from the first moment I was totally hooked. I remember the first time I heard Cybotron, specifically the "Clear" theme, [also] Hashim, Warp 9, Man Parrish, The Jonzun Crew, and Afrika Bambaataa".

He goes on to explain of a time when Afrika Bambaataa came to play at the Amnesia club in Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Catalonia, and getting a chance to breakdance for him. "When they closed the album, you could break dance for them while they collected the synths and other stuff, they freaked out but I did much more. To think of all the times I had danced to the theme Looking For The Perfect Beat, Planet rock, etc., and now they were the ones congratulating me. It was something of an eternal emotion".

Since then, Carlos Sicrock continues to gain momentum as a devoted Electro artist with a keen sense of how deep this sound can go, and why it's worth every bit of blood, sweat and tears to keep digging.

Rotterdam-based artist Puck Schot, aka Acidic Male. By mixing, she intends to create an hour of escapism through combining her favourite dark electronic experimental music with danceable electronics. Since 2019, she has been experimenting with producing as well.

LectrO cOd_E lays down another set of freaky electro tracks.  These five burners highlight some of his recent experiments with new production techniques and the results are intriguing, a bit absurd, but no less groovy than we have come to expect from this audacious beat smith.

'Last Bump' is garish and grinding with it's resonant blasts and hard clips of FM noise with the occasional stray carrier signal.  Of course, under all of the chaotic sonics is the signature LectrO bounce and relentless segmented arrangement style. A vibrant, animated mix layer for any occasion.

Continuing with 'Rewired', the pace is steady for fierce uprock with robotics on lock.  Random resonant bleeps dominate in abundance with poly rhythmic hooks strewn throughout...a track that sets and maintains a hard, funky plateau with a few carefully constructed miniature breaks to catch a breath.

'Randomized Funk' is LectrO cOd_E in a particularly spontaneous mode.  The snare drum play leads the charge through numerous layers of randomized sequences and quirky atonal patterns.  Another strong mix layer that exudes character and interest straight through.

'Watch Me' is an elaborate setup of pulverizing blips punching through a hyped-up beat with splattered, spinning hi-hat rolls, giving way to that commanding vocoder blast.  As would be expected, the track rolls through numerous sections.  In each chaotic but connective transition, we are subject to new synth sequences and vocal hits, designed to trigger and release in waves of pent-up madness.

Closing with 'Phatt Stabber', the EP settles in the dust of an abstract electro hip hop vibe.  The breathing atmospherics set a moody stage for some heady minimal bleep sequences... a proper bookend for this slamming workout of amped breaks.
