“Now You Are Free” is celebratory sentiment for anyone completing a grueling trial, whatever the case may be. A blend of adventure, romance, and triumph, this ‘Hero’s Journey’ type of piece was written to fulfill the requirements of the Master of Music in Film Composition at the Pacific Northwest Film Scoring Program, under the direction of Emmy Award winning composer, Hummie Mann.

This piece was designed to showcase skills developed in the program and in doing so, I have modeled it to invoke one of the styles of one of my favorite film composers, John Debney. His music, and many others, inspired me to pursue film scoring and delve into understanding its amazing ability to simultaneously convey and elicit emotion to enhance the experience of life and film.

Brooding, reflective song teaser about humanity this year. 2020 has brought so much anger, fear, and pain. In the midst of a pandemic, human brutality, and divisive "leaders," this distressed world has literally been burning.

To practice some orchestration and ear training, I mashed up holiday favorites with film music favorites. Here’s Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer meets The Incredibles. Now that’s a movie I’d see.

Anton du Preez is a composer, singer, and songwriter in the United States. He is a regular performer and recording artist, and also composes and produces for various projects. His credits include a number of Hallmark and Lifetime films, the TV series “Demonhuntr,” singing for AAA video games including Destiny, Diablo, and World of Warcraft, and he has released several albums. He has been a featured soloist with the Seattle Symphony. He is the lead transcriber for Disney Character Voices International, a Neurologic Doctor of Physical Therapy, a registered therapy dog team, a US Navy veteran, and proudly gay.
