"Ichinen" was born from the strong connection between Roberto Bosco and Kiny, both founders of Last Drop Records imprint. The style is indeed a unique mix of different approaches and visions. The sudden encounter of these two souls marks a decisive synergy of sounds. Ichinen is determination at its purest form: relentless impulse, constantly striving for the realization of music in order to go beyond the ordinary logic of reality.
In 2016 they returns on their label with "A Morning Without Glory", the first official track under new Ichinen monicker with remixes by Dasha Rush and Etapp Kyle.

Label favourite, Christian Cambas, returns to Rhythm Distrikt this month with his brand new ‘359’ EP. His discography reads like a who's-who of the world’s most prominent record labels, from Toolroom and Great Stuff, to 1605 and Bedrock, his name is synonymous with quality. Kicking things off is title track ‘359’ which offers the perfect combination of heavy synth stabs, a resounding bassline, hypnotic vocals and driving drums. ‘Dub Rinse’ follows suit; a straight up techno-driven banger geared for peak time energy and packed with a pulsating b-line and sinister percussion.

"To me it has always been about the loop. How a rhythmic pattern can evolve without actually changing and the hypnotic aspect to that. Also the way textures and ambiences can put me in a certain mood instantly. This mix is my way of putting those two together in something I would either play as an opening set at a club, or at an after hours where the energy has peaked and people are after something warmer and more intimate."

Our July episode features a fresh new stellar techno mix from our MASHT teammate, JAER.

JAER is an avid supporter of New York’s Techno community and is a veteran of the underground scene for over 20 years and counting; within that time he has been involved with the birth and rebirth of Techno in the city.

A native to Brooklyn, JAER has played gigs around New York alongside friend and MASHT supporter, Chanski as well as the Dos Locos in the hayday of National Underground and Arlene's Grocery. Now he has joined the MASHT crew and shares the decks with Fritz Ta, Hisaki 13, Samuel, and Aji. 

This mix conjures up memories of warehouse and even field raves with it's melodic nuances and peaky vocal samples. It also does a great job leading you into a trance of cosmic imagery with its heavy synth loops and heavy modular basslines. Towards the peak nucleus of the mix one can't help but to feel as if watching a space jam or UFO race, tripping out to unique tracks and JAER's style of mixing with vinyls.

Hailing from Okinawa, now-Tokyo-based producer IORI once cut his teeth as an assistant for David Mancuso’s revered party, The Loft, in New York City, where he learnt a meticulous sonic mentality from his audiophile mentor. This permeates his carefully-handled arrangements, which have helped make his name and define a series of spacey, atmospheric originals and remixes for proponent imprints like Phonica and Prologue to name but a few.
Since his striking 2009 debut, Galaxy, which took its cue from Basic Channel and Manuel Gottsching, the Japanese producer has developed an immensely expressive dubbed-out sound in his own right. The first culmination of that is 2012’s excellent
Nexus album for Bitta, a label owned by Far Eastern rising star DJ Nobu, seeing his ambient productions sit nicely with his hypnotic dance tunes.
Two year stay in Berlin in early 2010s helped IORI gain a foothold in the international stage. He has since traveled across Europe, validating his characteristic meditative techno set, which is just the tip of his huge musical iceberg that ranges from low-slung house to leftfield oddballs. Despite his return to Japan in 2015, his presence remains strongly felt through frequent European tours.
2016 saw IORI release the Cold Radiance album, where his sci-fi ambient side grew fully- fledged. For an artist that has produced immersive and spacious pieces, it was a logical continuation of his extensive career as a producer. Eschewing the club-orientated perspective, it certainly proved IORI’s expressional depth and does justice to his artistic intention, his acute ears for spellbinding details standing out in sharp relief, which raised expectations of his promising future. Refracted’s music feels as fundamentally human as it sounds otherworldly. It is techno more as an idea and conduit, than as an easily- labeled sound. It is dance music where layered rhythms act almost on a neural, sub epidermal level, while moving and evolving soundscapes acquire a tactile, understated physicality. Paramount examples of this can be found on releases on Refracted’s own Mind Express label, and on celebrated labels like PoleGroup, Semantica and Canadian ambient/deep-techno imprint Silent Season.

He is also the owner of Alpenglühen (the label) focused in deep and ambient techno which explores the thin line between light and darkness.
