It brought me sheer joy to return to Lightning In A Bottle,  playing music on two of its most legendary stages: The Junkyard (formerly known as The Favela Bar) and The Woogie. Throughout more than a decade, I've been fortunate enough to witness LIB's incredible evolution into the spectacle it is today, both as a devoted attendee and a passionate performer. This journey has played an influential role on my music, my life, and my community and I am profoundly grateful for it.

Thank you all for co-creating with me and I look forward to the next time we get to dance together. For the time being, I hope you enjoy this sonic journey we shared Thursday night at The Junkyard Stage.

Desert Hearts Records is a tribute to House, Techno, & Love. What started as an intimate renegade gathering in the Mojave Desert has since blossomed into a movement that celebrates love, life, and music.

For my return to the Woogie Stage, I decided to dig super deep into my vast music collection. Since I have been working hard to expand my musical range lately, the music contained  within spans a period of nearly 25 years. I think I nailed the daytime vibe that I wanted perfectly.

I have attended LiB festival for 11 years straight. It's always an amazing time, and Do LaB runs one of the best production teams in the world. Super grateful for this experience. Please enjoy the set and comment on the parts that you like, your feedback is very important to me.

This week we have a very special mix, in fact, it's a mix we have been chasing for over two years!! Tara Brooks, live from the Market stage at Rainbow Serpent Festival 2018.

There is a line where the dark fuses with the light, the surreal with the sublime, the graceful with the powerful; it is within this line that Tara Brooks has carved out her truly distinct sound. Whether playing at an intimate club, a dark underground warehouse, a packed festival or a magical sunrise deep in the Burning Man Playa, Tara's music envelopes the crowd, stirring them with deep funky grooves, hypnotic & trippy rhythms, acidy deep techno, soulful, and haunting melodies. Behind the decks, her passion and love for music is contagious.

Struck by the power of the music and the loving vibe of the scene, Tara was destined to be a part of it. Learning on vinyl, Tara picked up her first record in 2007 and hasn't looked back since. With her unique sounds, loving energy and fierce work ethic leading the charge, Tara has played some of the most respected venues, both domestic and abroad including The BPM Festival (Mexico), Katerblau (Berlin) Sisyphos (Berlin), Blue Marlin (Ibiza) Acid Sundays (Ibiza), The Brooklyn Mirage (New York), Flash (DC) DNSOF (Miami), Lightning in a Bottle, Sound (Los Angeles), PublicWorks (SF) and of course a little place she calls Home, Burning Man.

When she's not touring, you can find Tara locked in the studio. Rather then focusing on genre or style, Tara is sonically inspired by personal experience and connection with her environment. Always striving to translate a specific feeling or moment, Tara creates a sound that is all her own: Compelling, sophisticated, haunting and healing, piercing your heart and invigorating your soul.

Whether it's through production or playing, Tara's continued passion for sharing her music knows no bounds. She’s a resident for Desert Hearts and Subtract Music & will be warming up for legend John Digweed, NYE at Output (NY). She’s starting 2018 off right with Rainbow Serpent Festival (AUS), then back for her 3rd year of Envision Festival (Costa Rica). With her original productions, remixes, & podcasts set for release on Kindisch, Exotic Refreshment, Deep House Amsterdam, Electronic Groove, Einmusik’s Ibiza Global Radio, & When We Dip, the future is filled with the light for Tara as she continues to do what she loves her way and always from the heart.

MCL8: Mr.C Loves... Tara Brooks

Anton Tumas is a man that wears many hats. As a DJ, promoter, and label owner, he has left an inevitable mark on the underground scene, spanning over a decade.

Cutting his teeth at LA’s clubs, desert parties like Moontribe and Burning Man, where he’s played everything from Robot Heart to DISTRIKT and Mayan Warrior, festivals such as Lightning in a Bottle, Desert Hearts, Further Future and Woogie Weekend, he quickly found himself playing with the likes of Hernán Cattáneo, DJ Tennis, and Danny Howells. Refusing to be limited by run of the mill music, his ever-evolving taste ranges from the farthest corners of house and techno to abstract electronica and everything in between.

Gaining the ability to control a dance floor led to his being inspired to understand the makings of a good party. Using his laser-like focus, he was soon a self-taught promoter, throwing parties in city parks and outdoor venues. Most notably, he essentially discovered the Belmont Pier in Long Beach as a venue, and set up one of the region’s most respected residencies, Subtract On The Pier. 

Now well into its sixth year, it continues to attract local icons, such as Doc Martin and Marques Wyatt, and major international headliners including Hernán Cattáneo, Patrice Bäumel, and Max Cooper. This residency combined with his promoter prowess led him to co-produce and curate the Love Long Beach Festival, which is in its seventh year and attracts more than 15,000 people.

Having initially founded the Subtract brand as a record label, he showcased emerging talent as new indie labels do. Although that commitment to new artists remains unchanged, his credibility now attracts remixes from superstars like Stimming, John Digweed and Damian Lazarus. The label releases just once or twice a year, with a focus on quality over quantity.

Now, with years of experience under his belt, he is ready for the next chapter. “We’re in an ever-evolving landscape, and are inventing it as we speak. But take this as a promise: We are about to raise the bar.”
