What tastes better than the first gin & tonic? The second one. So we’ve once again scoured the drum & bass scene for more brand new talent to soothe your ears and entice your palate. The assembled team of exciting young talents promise to further the success of our first batch, as we continue to distill the potency of our ’Tonics’ series. 

First up are the bouncing, buoyant sounds of UK based producer Soul Method’s aptly titled ‘Throwing Shapes’ providing a welcome, high-energy introduction to the sonic selection displayed on the EP. Groovy pads and pleasing arpeggios ride a seriously satisfying drum break and woodblock. Superbly simple vocals and measured bass work will have you giving it all and shuffling with glee on the dancefloor now that clubs are finally back open. 

Newcomer Half-Life smashes it out of the park with his debut release ‘Split’ which is a little on the grittier side than its predecessor. Creepy layered pads and foreboding harmony gel atop brisk drums, resulting in a stomach lurching drop. Wobbly bass tones, grainy digital synths and a growing drone really push the momentum throughout the tune and positions Half-Life as another young name to watch over the next year. 

Bath resident Aydn takes the floor with his bubbly, uplifting debut ‘No Option’. Trickling notes from a spacey synth and vocal chops swim in reverb, backed by a rolling beat and a deceptive crescendo which boasts rousing string plucks and grumbling swathes of bass. The 2nd drop ushers in a beefy amen break and deep, swelling bass notes which splice perfectly with the existing elements. . 

Devon boy Beeson pollinates our ears with the nectar that is ‘Brown Sugar’. For a track that starts relatively calmly, it doesn’t waste any time shifting into a stuttering, hypnotic shoe thrower. The interplay between the intense acidic arpeggio, the guttural tones of low-end and the swelling strings are very easy on the ear - a pleasing first outing that is reminiscent of the old-school raves that we have been desperate to re-capture. 

Bristol bombshells Circumference continue to prove why they’re one of the most exciting duos to come out of the city in the last 24 months. Building on the accomplished and varied sound displayed on their ‘Ambivalence’ EP on Flexout last year, the orchestral enthusiasts continue to merge mind-melting synth work with unorthodox harmonic approaches and production quality beyond their years. With drums tighter than a billionaire's wallet and compositional chops that continue to turn heads - we welcome the return of this bright young pair who you’re guaranteed to see more of. 

Rising South African star Stay-C shows off her developing style with her Soulvent debut ‘Make It Complex’ which rounds out the EP and undeniably lives it up to its name. Dark, unsettling atmos and haunting synths culminate in a gnarled, growling and gritty soundscape complete with hard-hitting drums which switches up just as fast as your ear can process it. 

Come and quench your thirst for a second time, with another batch of delightfully delectable libations, available from all good stores on the 17th September.

Continuing the Most Violent Year Album project, NC-17 returns with the second instalment of this epic trilogy of long players.

Each part of this album series was written during a year in which the global pandemic took hold, intense political disruption created unstable futures and media outlets across the world became further polarised and outraged, creating vast swathes of angered and confused people, unsure of who to trust. This second edition encapsulates that paranoid, tense, terror - moving on from the looming dread of the unknown that formed the basis of Part 1.

Beginning each part of the album with an entirely new batch of tunes, Part 2 represents 13 of the best cuts from over 50 tracks written just for this chapter of this epic trilogy. By beginning with a fresh palette and creating entirely new music for each section NC-17 was able to keep each part distinct, and the music contained within this speaks exactly to the feelings he experienced during the project.

Alongside 8 incredible solo productions are collaborations with some of the dnb scene’s most notable talents, 5 exceptional tracks featuring Kolectiv & OB1, Myth, Philth, Dr. Apollo and Logam.

You smell that? That’s the smell of burnt rubber, cold rain, and broken promises. Welcome to the Mean Streets kid. 

You ever hear jungle breaks echoing through an empty parking garage at 3 a.m.? That’s what this is for. Mean Streets is built for late-night runs and lost causes. It's a drum and bass tribute to the golden age of the PlayStation, back when everything felt faster, dirtier, realer. Back when we were still counting polygons kid. 

Think Wipeout 2097, Ridge Racer, Need for Speed. This is the sound of busted-up jungle drum and bass straight from a memory card left in the rain.

Yeah, there's liquid DnB in here, even some future garage, the kind that creeps in when the streets are empty and the rain won’t stop and you can't get those damned memories outta your head. But don’t get it twisted kid, the heart of this record is that early-2000s jungle mayhem. The stuff that came out of blown speakers and off bootleg discs. That sound that made you drive too fast and care too little.

So here’s your induction, rookie. The Mean Streets don’t care who you are. But if you’re gonna race out here, you better have the right soundtrack. And now, you do.

Ant TC1 along with Hidden Agenda founded Dispatch Recordings back in 2001, Ant originally helped out with the management side of the label before finding his feet within the realms of production; which was a natural progression for him having DJ’d on pirate radio and in clubs from the age of 14 (since 1992).  His first release alongside frequent production partner Stress Level appeared on Dispatch after almost 3 years of hard work getting their collective sound where they felt it needed to be before even thinking about turning on a DAT recorder.  After their first release hit the stores they quickly picked up a wealth of DJ support across their early material and went on to release for a who’s who list of established Drum & Bass record labels including the likes of Renegade, CIA, Advanced, Critical Records Integral, Liquid V, Commercial Suicide, Good Looking Records, Bingo Beats and Samurai Music.

By demand remix work started to feature heavily within their output and the duo went on to remix for the likes of Hidden Agenda, Chris SU, Artificial Intelligence, Kabuki, Total Science, Optical & Ryme Time (Jagged Edge), Atlantic Connection, Tactile & DJ Marky.  Branching out and working with other producers such as Survival, DLR & Philth has only furthered experience Ant’s skills at the controls over the years, Ant has also released his own solo material more recently on top of remixing for the likes of Lomax on Integral Records.  In 2014 Ant realised a lifetime ambition, securing his first ever release for the legendary Metalheadz label “Hungry For Atmosphere” alongside Mako, DLR & Villem with further releases for the label and counting going into 2024.

Ant’s production output has featured on a mass of compilations and mix CD’s compiled by the likes of Shy FX, LTJ Bukem, Total Science, AI, Spectrasoul, Klute and Brian G.  Additionally his work has featured very heavily within the radio shows of Friction, Grooverider, Fabio, Goldie, Bailey & Rene LaVice on their respective BBC Radio 1 slots over the years as well as BBC 1Xtra where Ant once hosted his own one-off 4 hour show, he has since additionally made 2 guest DJ appearances for DJ Friction on his Radio 1 show.  His DJ’ing work has seen him play all over the globe from Adelaide to Los Angeles, from Hong Kong to Sarajevo, Vancouver to Bangkok and last but by no means least regularly UK and EU wide. Additionally for the most part of the decade beyond 2010 Ant also worked as the Artist Manager for both Outlook and Dimensions Festival in Croatia, leading up the booking process, budgets and travel aspects for the festival.

Fast forward through to 2024; Ant is now responsible for the lead label management roles of both Metalheadz & Dispatch Recordings and is based in Thailand, with a purpose built studio room recently finished the plan (alongside managing a mass of planned record label releases) is to get back to focusing on writing music more consistently than he ever has previously.
