Techno is a form of electronic dance music that emerged in Detroit, Michigan, in the United States during the mid-to-late 1980s. The first recorded use of the word techno in reference to a specific genre of music was in 1988. Many styles of techno now exist, but Detroit techno is seen as the foundation upon which a number of subgenres have been built. Stylistically, techno is generally repetitive instrumental music, oftentimes produced for use in a continuous DJ set. The central rhythmic component is most often in common time (4/4), where time is marked with a bass drum on each quarter note pulse, a backbeat played by snare or clap on the second and fourth pulses of the bar, and an open hi-hat sounding every second eighth note. The tempo tends to vary between approximately 120 to 150 beats per minute (bpm), depending on the style of techno. As the original sound evolved in the late 1980s and early 1990s, it also diverged to such an extent that a wide spectrum of stylistically distinct music was being referred to as techno. By the late 1980s and early 1990s, the original techno sound had garnered a large underground following in the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. The growth of techno's popularity in Europe between 1988 and 1992 was largely due to the emergence of the rave scene and a thriving club culture. By 1994 there were a number of techno producers in the UK and Europe building on the Detroit sound, but a growing range of underground dance music styles were by then vying for attention. Some drew upon the Detroit techno aesthetic, while others fused components of preceding dance music forms. This led to the appearance (in the UK initially) of inventive new music, some of which bore little, if any, relation to the original techno sound.  Producers from Detroit, frustrated by the lack of opportunity in their home country, looked to Europe for their future livelihood. This first wave of Detroit expatriates was soon joined by a number of up-and-coming artists, the so-called "second wave". Developments in American-produced techno between 1990 and 1992 fueled the expansion and eventual divergence of techno in Europe. Although eclipsed by Germany, Belgium was another focus of second-wave techno in this time period. The Ghent-based label R&S Records embraced harder-edged techno by "teenage prodigies" like Beltram and C.J. Bolland, releasing "tough, metallic tracks... with harsh, discordant synth lines.

'Dein Herz schlägt schneller’ im Remix von Oliver Koletzki (Stil von Talent, Universal) oder als internationale Adaption von Malente (No Brainer) im ‚My Heart Beats Faster’ Remix. ‚Die Leude’ wird hier mal fein von Lexy & K-Paul und Ante Perry (Katermukke, Kittball) aufgemischt serviert. Justus Köhnke (Kompakt) offenbart seine ‚Magie’ und als classic Remix ist die DJ Koze Version von ‚Happy Hip Hop’ aus dem Jahr 1998 als reminiszierender Leckerbissen mit auf der Scheibe vertreten. Brazed (Audiolith), Tagteam Terror (Moonbootique), Marc Deal und Apollo Lovemachine runden das elektronische Paket mit ihren Interpretationen von ‚Nirvana’ bis ‚Sowieso’ stilsicher ab.
‚Ein Gefühl größer als ein Gefühl’. Die Erde ist eine Scheibe.

Biography

As a DJ, producer and label boss, Berlin’s Alex Niggemann’s career has been instrumental in the continued development of underground techno. His ever-restless creativity and desire to build a platform for music that defines the deeper side of the electronic spectrum, led Alex to launch his very successful label, AEON in 2013 – an imprint which has gone on to play an integral part in building Alex’s impressive repertoire of releases to this point and beyond. His aim for the label is to build a representative artistic platform that mirrors the peak time DJ sets that he plays, referencing the spirit of classic, timeless house and techno and updating it for the future.
Now well on the way to becoming an established underground label, the focus for 2016 is the continued growth of this already hyper-successful imprint with a flurry of releases from the underground’s hottest new talents. Beyond the music, Alex has also launched an impressive event series under the AEON moniker, already selling out shows at Rotterdam’s world renowned Transport, Watergate and further in Milan, Barcelona and North Africa. Followed up by confirmed dates throughout Europe’s clubbing hotspots – London, Berlin, and Amsterdam as well as an already stacked personal diary with tours confirmed for Europe, North Africa, The Far East and Australia.
Add to this the release of his own club and radio ready tracks via Aeon and beyond – 2016 is the year that Alex Niggemann breaks through to another level of artistry and becomes one of the underground’s major player.
Known for boundless energy, a formidable work ethic, a love of musical diversity and undisputed, exceptional artistic talent, have already seen Alex’s global profile grow at an exponential rate. Max Durante’s first LP in a 30 year career, ’The Experiment’, is a new, left-field direction for an artist whose history traces from the birth of techno, through IDM, acid and electro. Spread over four sides of vinyl, ‘The Experiment’ consists of beatless pieces, broken-beat techno and straight-up dancefloor trips.

The LP opens with eight minutes of full immersion in the eternally looped beat of ‘EX-P01’. It sets up the diverse yet distinctive, ambient-leaning tracks which make up the first 12”. On the C side, Durante’s focus is on the dancefloor, with hard-hitting, tense techno tracks made in collaboration with his peers from the early Roman scene, acclaimed duo Retina.it and half of Rephlex act D’Arcangelo. On the final side, ‘EX-P07’ is trademark Durante in the style of ‘Black Light’ (KYN001) or his recent records for Sonic Groove, before an ambient outro ends the experiment. The record was mastered by one of Rome’s following generation of techno artists, Giuseppe Tillieci aka Neel.
