this is my afterhours ambient set from the end of playbody edition 005. 

there is so much in this set. 

played on the day we marched for the anniversary of the intensification of the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people and continued global islamophobia, it is dedicated to those murdered by imperialism. 

the spirit of trans+ resistance, power, and progress, is also imbued within.

when i - at times - have spaces to safely express my gender and affirm it, i also recognise that many of my siblings still cannot and the violence against our communities must always be resisted. 

it is dedicated to those who fought so i could be, those who continue to do so and to those we have lost. 

the week of the party was difficult for me, and was my first real mental health challenge of 2024 - a year that has contained so much modulation of the self and spirit. 

some tracks i have lived with for years sit alongside recent discoveries. this set has been developing, unknown to me, since i accepted my transness in Jan 23 and it was a privilege to be finally able to build and share it. 

ultimately, it is a love song to myself, and a reflection of the changes and growth i have made in this chapter of my journey. 

it is also a love letter to my friend M* who could not be there. 

a huge portion of this music was prepped with another friend M** living in my mind. with me for the entire journey, placing flowers on the decks, serving watermelon, or simply dancing, they offered their energy to guide us through the experience. 

at the end we shared an embrace with my dear friend L* as we closed the portal.

there are tracks here for all of my  friends and chosen family old and new. 

some of them revealed themselves to me before and some i only realised contained the essence of people as i was playing them. 

i know that life is forever shifting like sand dunes beneath us.

i recognise that continued life requires continued care. 

i must always tend to the garden of my existence so my flower can bloom. 

i hope listening to this can offer reflection and healing, as it has for me. 

thank you to everyone at playbody for welcoming me so openly. 

finally, to a person who does not need to be named: 

so much of this is for you and so much of me will always be for you. i hope that one day we will understand each other as much as we love each other. if you listen to this, i hope it allows you to exhale.

Composer, producer, and DJ dragongirl has recorded a mix for us featuring some of her own tracks too. Having released her critically acclaimed debut album 'hot blue' on the Norwegian label Sheep Chase Records in 2023, dragongirl has since brought her vibrant sound to some of Northern Europe's most well-known clubs and festivals including Denmark's Den Anden Side, Berlin's OST and OXI, and Kaleido Festival.
