BICEP (Live) @ Glastonbury 2022

Here is my mix for the Feel My Bicep mixtape series.The mix was recorded in my home bedroom studio in Haggerston, drafted on my technics 1210’s and CDJ’s and then put together in Traktor and Logic Pro for a few tweaks. I have some effects chains I use in Logic for my productions which I love and wanted to utilise in the mix to give an essence of my production throughout, including Vahalia (the best!) plugins and Phat FX filters.

This week in the mix is Koboro, the London-born DJ & co-founder of Elicit Records – a new label co-founded by himself & Kessler to champion forward thinking electronic music with an emphasis on giving a platform to lesser-known artists. As always, we first caught up to hear about the mix & what he’s been up to…

There’s been lots of behind-the-scenes work getting Elicit out into the world, which has been in the works since late 2022. After many delays, it was a big relief to officially launch back in October with Eddy’s EP Lunar, which if you haven’t checked out already go do so now (its nuts!!). We’ve also just recently dropped a 12-track compilation and the feedback has been seriously amazing.

In more recent news, we just threw a fundraising party last week for Sudan in collaboration with two amazing labels, Amity Club and SSS, who are run by amazing close friends of mine who happen to also be some very talented individuals. Sudan is currently undergoing a massive humanitarian crisis and I really hope to see more people talking about it.

The mix was recorded in Pirate studios on a set of cdj 2000’s and a djm900nxs2 mixer, not exactly ideal but the home set up is currently undergoing a makeover lol. I had actually borrowed a controller from my friend to get this recorded initially but didn’t bother with it in the end as I still just don’t like the feel of controllers. 

It’s definitely a power hour and gets straight to business. Lots of bass and percussion and gets quite deep at times, a pretty solid reflection of the type of music I’ve been enjoying playing in the club lately. The mix features a blend of (mostly) newer and forthcoming music including some unreleased Elicit bits.

In collaboration with Sadaa Sound Syndicate, we're honoured to present Sawt Syria: an exploration of club & underground music culture in Syria and its exilic diaspora in Europe. Captured in the summer of 2022, this two-part project showcases, for the first time ever, the most compelling Syrian DJs & producers of contemporary culture, shaabi sounds & rap.

This first segment – 'Motherland', shot in Damascus – presents a 6-hour broadcast accompanied by a video-essay that roots deeper into these artists’ worlds & practices in music-making & organising. 

"Sawt Syria {'sawt' meaning sound} is a meditation on the Syrian condition forged in over a decade of still ongoing war and dispersion, of the abjection and joy that shape that condition and the place of music in reckoning and striving for life. It was conceived & produced by Syrians for Syrians with editorial help from Sadaa Sound Syndicate – a cross-border group of self-organized Syrians who are attuned to the agential possibilities of sound. Since its inception, this project has been difficult to put out into a world where genocide is ongoing in Palestine and where turmoil persists in Syria and the region. In collaboration with Sadaa Sound Syndicate, we're honoured to present Sawt Syria: an exploration of club & underground music culture in Syria and its exilic diaspora in Europe. In the last couple years I've had less and less time to spend wit my absolute main people, and I've also been making a new recordddd. So i wanted to get all these people together and have an evening in london and play them some of the tunes and jus have a nice time really.  Some of the songs on this are on the record that ive jus finished/am finishing (😉). Watching this evening unfold jus puts an real infinity smile on my face. Bicep (Live) - @ Printworks 2018 (Incl. Tracklist)

Live recordings are rarely perfect, so I hummed and hawed about putting this up because on the night i got a little caught up in the moment at times, so some of the mixing is a little rushed, but that's probably why I love the energy in this recording so much.

I feel like it's an honest display of how I DJ when i feel relaxed and it goes some way to capturing the energy of Glasgow (certainly through the lens i see it anyway).

This was a really special night, so thanks to all of you who were there to enjoy it with me.

For anyone who couldn't make it - I hope the recording goes some way to retaining the vibe in the room that you can catch a feeling from.
