STRANGE & EXPERIMENTAL Ambient, Techno & Leftfield Electronica (UNeasy Listening) //maxim wolzyn

Have you ever gone outside on a cloudy day and smelled that it was going to rain? Or, after a rainstorm, noticed that there was a certain smell in the air? Childhood memories come to mind when playing in the puddles of water was the best moment of the day. It was the time when the smell of earth meant the onset of a joyous season.

Petrichor is the term given to that unique scent following a rain shower – when the world seems to sigh with pleasure, and we, unconsciously perhaps, breathe in a little more deeply, savouring the smells in return.

Francesco Piunti is the man behind @deepbreakfastseries, a brilliant and touchfull mix series focused on ambient sounds. Our maximum true respect for the dedication, knowledge and excellent way of doing. Returning to the term petrichor, Francesco gives us a short poem from Leah Snyder that goes like this:

“I step outside, the sky above gray as slate
petrichor seeping up through the grass,
engulfing my state of mind as i inhale
and guiding me into a place of hushed abstraction”.

Definitely, petrichor is more than just a happy smell. It is a promise of abundance, a welcome chance of survival and shelter, and a hope that the merry childhood days will be back again.

ARTIST'S BIO:
Inhmost is one of the monikers of S.Huxtable who wanted a representation for the more ambient and downtempo works that he creates which would allow the freedom of expression within these genres, deep space atmospheres and otherworldly soundscapes are the order of the day.

Situated in the South West of England the local area provides the backdrop for inspiration with the coast and countryside allowing an escape into the wild for moments of reflection.
Inhmost has solo album releases with Stasis Recordings, RE:ST, La Luna, Huinali, Captured Visions, Short Trips and Tonights Dream Records as well as collaborating with ASC on projects for Auxiliary. (Words by Human Lessons)

Everyone at some point in their existence experiences a critical moment in their busy life where big decisions can lead to big change, both at work and in life. A turning point that make your life never be the same again. A new you, a new us.

David is a die-hard record collector who has been playing them around the North of Spain and Europe for more than 15 years now. Since three years ago he's more focused on Escala de Grisos, his monthly radio show on a local station, where he plays and discuss about ambient, techno and anything in between as well as making some interviews.

David has recorded the following mix with that feeling of knowing that something huge is about to change in his life, just like what happened at .apart in a way. Hence the name translated into Catalan :)

A magnificent true personal musical journey where he captures with great sense and extreme delicacy a long list of antonyms such as fear-hope, uncertainty-desire…

To sum up overall, David shares the following poem:

"... The rocks crash, the puddles splash, the mirrow ripples, the calmness returns, so are the turning points of life that disrupt our world to only steer us onto a path more right than the one before, let the wind blow as it may, for it's only wish is to whisk you away to a destination where your heart will find a true home, a place where the doubts and confusion have no life supply, for when the turn is complete, a soul once lost, will be found, only to realize it was all part of the journey, and around the corner there is so much more to see ... The new episode of our podcast series comes from @lowgravitysound: Technology and imperfection, raw and processed, so many concepts that lie at the core of Futurepast identity.

Low Gravity trained his mixing and production skills in the London underground scene, before he brought his sound to Rome where he co-founded @radiocircolo and Collettivo Sonico. As an enthusiast of electroacoustics and experimental music, he deploys his knowledge to sculpt the sound, and fuse elements from ambient textures, experimental and hypnotic rhythms.

The mix itself features tracks from essential pioneers Éliane Radigue and Suzanne Ciani, Brian Eno, revered sound designers and composers like Tetsu Inoue, Alva Noto, Pete Namlook or Robert Rich, and new coming talents like LF58, Grand River, and of course Low Gravity himself, with an unreleased track.

Futurepast Mix 11 - Low Gravity

As if it were a migratory journey, we move away voluntarily or forced, unfortunately some, from a cold and normally noisy city full of hectic lives and people with a thirst for power. A walk towards nature/forest where human voices cease to exist to transform into animal sounds causing a feeling of refuge and closeness. We leave behind a world of concrete and welcome the sounds of mother earth.

Milan native Matteo, a clearly devotee of nature, investigates sound with high enthusiansm and dedication. He wonderfully creates a mellow amalgam of layers using over-reverberated synths, field recordings, and self-created samples. Atoloi is constantly searching for another dephts in which the listener can get lost while getting submerged by heavy-grained noises and evocative instrumental compositions.

Matteo has left us the following text: “I tried to represent this slow march in a real and, at the same time, emotional forest, in which memories and the outer cosmos merge into a unique and cathartic experience.

A pleasant stroll through the forests of Ego. “A universe born from the perfect union between the external environment and the inmost emotional unconscious”.

.CHPTR044 ‘Due passi tra le foreste dell'Io’ | Atoloi

Aboard a spaceship lined from top to bottom with neon lights and made of sound remnants, noises, samples, field recordings and modular synthesizers; we're heading somewhere where we're just pure spectators. During the trip piloted by Mocrobo, a rich auditory landscape full of magnificent sound waves of different shapes/sizes can be seen/heard through the ship's windows. Melodic and harmonic at times but loud and terrifying at others. Distant voices and modules weaving a varied network of shots that cover styles such as pop, ambient, noise or trip hop.

Victor is an experimental musical artist from Jaén (Spain) who is difficult to classify and comes from the most extreme confines of metal. His creations took a radical turn towards the electronic field attracted by the great variety of nuances and possibilities that exist in the synthesis of sound and experimentation with classical processed instruments.

Victor reminds us that ‘if for someone being locked up at home is a better idea than going out for fresh air, perhaps a Lyra 8 could become a great friend’.

.CHPTR046 'El sueño bifásico sobre la tierra' | Helecho Experimentar

The ICE LP was created by Maxim Wolzyn over a period of three years, mostly whilst touring throughout Germany by train as part of the Günther Lause duo. Spread over eight tracks, the LP poetically captures the complex networks of railways and tunnel systems that carry with them the thoughts and feelings of millions of people, aspiring to attain an overall impression of the collective consciousness of a society on the move. 

Inspired sonically by the soundscapes of urban spaces, rail stations and the pulsing motions of modern mass transportation, various field recordings are mixed with reverberating synthesizer patterns and percussive composition, creating a mixture of straight forward techno and dystopian ambiences. 

While being reminiscent of Berlin's dub techno tradition it also transcends the typical club context, moving into the realm of the intimate and personal.

Bio:
Mas is an audiovisual project recently formed by two members of the lpc collective label. They like to develop through their music and photographies a cold, minimalist and dark landscape.
Their work is inspired by artists from different horizons, such as : Delia Derbyshire for her contribution to concrete and electronic music during the 60’s, Le Corbusier for his minimalist vision of things and David Lynch for his particular and immersive aesthetic. The two parisian producers also give interest to the industrial music of Samuel Kerridge, for exemple. For this podcast, the duo tried to put all these influences together, for a slow travel to cold Autumn.

Our next guest, Kamikaze Space Programme, explores these so-called "errors" with an elegant diligence. His singular sound has offered him the opportunity to release on renowned platforms such as Luke Slater's Mote Evolver imprint and West Norwood Cassette Library. With a new LP slated for Osiris Music, he takes a welcome turn into more impalpable realms, focusing his sound increasingly on dubbed-out atmospheres. In anticipation of these new directions, we decided to catch up with this one of a kind producer for a preview of what is to come. Enjoy!
