Organisms interact in three fundamental ways: competition, predation, and mutualism. The last one is defined as an interaction between species that is beneficial to both.
For this series Mutualismos 01 we invite Qik from Argentina and Kamila Govorčin from Chile, as cases of different artists coming from different environments cooperating with each other. 
Each side of the record is a world of its own, but its mere presence casts light on the other, reshaping our listening and allowing a stable equilibrium to be reached.

Argentine musician with an extensive participation in multidisciplinary projects, Qik began producing electronic music in the early 2000s. The core elements of these tracks originated in a live performance during the quarantine of 2020, to be later reworked in the studio. The two laboratory-synthesized entities, however, maintain the fluidity of their original, a character that manifests in their rhythmic and synth progression. Mississippi River is inspired by a documentary about New Orleans families who lost their homes during the 2005 flood. The second track is based on typical afro-rhythms from the Río de la Plata in Argentina.

Three intimate tracks by chilean DJ and producer Kamila Govorčin that are the result of an exercise in self-knowledge through music production after a period of questioning and discomfort. According to our sensory perception, time is linear and we cannot go back to past events: every action has its cause which can't be deleted, whether we like it or not. Our mind, on the other hand, can be trained to go back in time, select events and correct whatever interferes in our present. In her journey to find inner truth, these playful explorations with rhythmic patterns, ghostly melodies and digitally-processed voices allowed Kamila to rewind her mind in order to remember, reset, truly forget and carry on.

The two long time friends Grammar of Movement and ECXO are finally teaming up as Parallel Planet on the split EP Mixtus Orbis with Le Matin via Maturre Records. Based on their music, it's easy to hear the high collaborative energy the two producers have when they're in the studio together.

These two Aarhus born producers are very inspired by the roots of detroit electro sound and have achieved their own groovy, pacy and trippy sound universe with the blend of soft analogue and edgy digital synthesizers. Two tracks for the dancefloor and one for the mind.

Annie Hall - Memories That Never Happened

Annie Hall returns to Sheffield’s Central Processing Unit label with an EP entitled Memories That Never Happened. This record represents the producer’s third time on CPU after 2016’s Tenured Positions and 2020’s Fum, and it is also the latest release in a busy couple of years for Annie Hall which have also seen her drop EPs on 20:20 Vision, Orson Records and Random Island. The momentum Annie Hall has built up in recent times carries through to a dynamic collection of productions which bring enough heft in the beats to keep the dancefloor happy while also including all manner of details in the production.

Memories That Never Happened begins with the title-track, a twitchy yet wistful cut which perfectly matches its name. There’s bite to the broken-beat electro pulse, growling bass and robotic declamations of “it’s Annie”, but the makeup of the track is simultaneously rather rose-tinted, particularly when some chemtrails of a synth lead enter later on. The overall effect is as thoughtful as it is stimulating, akin to the halcyon productions of Daniel Avery.

If ‘Memories That Never Happened’ is somewhat plaintive, following jam ‘Problematic Tape Recorder’ has the bit between its teeth from the get-go. The beat crashes and snaps, and when played off shimmering stabs of synth it all adds up to a Wip3out rush that nods to both the old Rephlex Records sound as well as contemporary practitioners like Nightwave. Once again the synth lead is used lightly here, more an augmentation to the beat than the centrepiece - another demonstration of Annie Hall’s ability to write with focus even when the overall intent is to move bodies in the club.

The energy of ‘Problematic Tape Recorder’ is spun in an unusual direction on ‘Subsequent Experiments’, the first track of Memories That Never Happened’s B-side. This cut may be the quickest on the record, but this does not mean it shouts the loudest. Indeed, ‘Subsequent Experiments’ may be the most ornate production here, full of shadowy sonics and a deconstructed beat running at D&B speed. A kind of shadowrealm version of Planet Mu’s early drill & bass explorations crossed with UVB-76’s darkside post-Metalheadz excursions, this one is an eerie thrill.

After the busy ‘Subsequent Experiments’, Annie Hall slows down to take the EP’s home straight at mid-tempo. On ‘Unparalleded Comfort’, keyboard stabs slide over a rhythm that’s at once driving enough for the dancefloor and nuanced enough to allow little half-melodies of synth to flit around above. It’s a fitting closer for this EP, almost playing like an amalgamation of the elements which made the rest of Memories That Never Happened so appealing.

Annie Hall returns to Central Processing Unit with Memories That Never Happened, an EP of masterful productions which will delight both clubbers and home-listeners.

SPLOT is back with the most extensive body of work to date. We’re proud to present Crystalline: 10-track VA with gems from the talent of Polish underground scene. Spanning over a variety of styles and genres. Crystalline is truly an encapsulation of different musical inspirations that gave birth to SPLOT. And a sign of what’s to come.

Crystalline moves towards the urban dancehall and mutant bass with opening track ‘kostomłoty’ from the local underground musician repmeis. Next up is don dadan karambolo, SPLOT ambassador who brings cold bassline and one-of-a-kind dub-stepping business in ‘dym’. Drum and bass professor continues his multigenre journey. Mighty Satl rolls out dubby, techno-flavoured and syncopated rhythms in ‘Noodles142’.

Wrocław based Michał Łoboda comes next with an introspective broken techno tool. ‘evergreen’ explores the spaces of soothing bass and damp ambiance. The vibe is continued by another local talent. Rethe presents sophisticated production skills on his deep and spaced-out track. Dominated by massive drums and absorbing textures, ‘Under Construction’ is a first-class heady dancefloor destroyer. Prime cuts of UK-inspired rhythms are provided by holoe. Driven by powerful bassline, garage keys and rude electro, ‘screwface’ fulfills promise in the title.

One-half of a cult Warsaw duo Private Press, 2Shy comes with a hybrid of dubstep-influenced techno, rolling drums and trance structures that plunge the listener into a mental rollercoaster with ‘Nexu Modes’. Fischerle brings his tape-ambient feeling to a stomping, dub-heavy ‘Omoluzu’, which twists organic percussions and dense atmospheres together into a spiral.

A long time live-act performer Adam Salamøn puts together his first track ‘Elegy for the Clouds’, being a captivating ambient piece, which guides us through a misty tropical forest, finished with emotive pads. Representing Warsaw, Cafe de la Jungle brings cyberspace-tribal energy on the title track ‘Crystalline 99’. Channelling the futuristic and psychedelic sounds of early 1990s jungle, he closes the release and leads us into the sound of the new millennium.
