Hayk Karoyi's latest album is a masterful fusion of traditional and modern sounds that showcases the artist's unique cultural identity. As an Armenian multi-instrumentalist skilled in woodwinds, Karoyi has created an album that is a synthesis of acoustic instruments, field recordings, and electronic elements.

"The album is a journey through Karoyi's subconscious, as he uses his traditional instruments to explore the full spectrum of his cultural identity. As a mixed heritage artist, Karoyi does not try to be or sound purely Armenian in his music. Instead, he draws from his influences in both East Mediterranean and Armenian cultures to create a sound that is both familiar and new.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Taq Arevi Tak" which is also the title of the album, features a mesmerizing blend of electronic beats and traditional Armenian woodwinds. The track is a perfect example of how Karoyi's music seamlessly blends traditional and modern sounds

The album will be released on March 3rd both digitally and on limited edition cassettes

Circle Of Live is a brand new, live act only event series concept and record label curated by Sebastian Mullaert to honour the values of spontaneity and improvisation. 

For the inaugural release on the new Circle Of Live imprint, Sebastian Mullaert presents a joint EP with long time collaborator Eitan Reiter. The duo previously met on the 2014 album ‘Reflections of Nothingness’, (Mule Musiq) borne out of a week long jam spent together at Sebastian’s tranquil Röstånga studio. Following the album’s release, they arranged two live shows at Ozora festival in Hungary. 

For the first year the collaboration was mostly based on Sebastian's music with Eitan adding jams on top. For the second year, Eitan felt inspired to set up a more improvised live set, enabling a more spontaneous performance. Then, unexpectedly, Sebastian lost all his gear on the flight and the live show took a completely different turn. This time, the show relied more on Eitan’s music, with Sebastian jamming on top. Eitan had prepared simple sketches to jam around, similar to the way in which Sebastian plays. One of the sketches, "Loop for Today", later became one song on Eitan’s album called ”Give it Life”. Eitan asked Sebastian to remix this song. 

Sebastian accepted the remix invitation with the request to continue honoring improvisation and creativity, but instead of a normal remix it became an adventure out to the Dead Sea after Sebastian's gig at the Block Festival 2017. Eitan invited Ben Kirschenbaum to take care of the cameras and two more friends to carry gear and PA. As a result, the remix is an on the spot jam out in the desert … one take while the sun is going down. No time to think or plan, only the option to surrender to the situation and let creativity run its course. This is the ethos of Circle of Live in general, regardless of whether the expression is happening on stage or in the studio. Let it happen! Let it Be! Feel it. 

Back in the dense Swedish woodland, Sebastian made two more remixes under his Wa Wu We moniker. For the ‘Live In The Woods’ remix he restructures the expansive synthwork of the original in enclosed surroundings, whilst the ’Live By The Clouds’ interpretation looks upwards for a disorienting, dubbed out trip. 

” The main intention with Circle of Live is to inspire people to improvise; let their life be an improvisation; a spontaneous expression of life. In one perspective this is a concept with clear visions and definitions but at the same time the core aim of the project is to allow both us, the artists, and the audience to drop concepts and habitual patterns in the creative process of dance and music." 

Artists confirmed to take part in this inspiring new adventure are Ame (Live), Aurora Halal, Dorisburg, Eitan Reiter, Johanna Knutsson, Leafar Legov, Ljudbilden & Piloten, Mathew Jonson, Neel, Steevio & SuzyBee, Tobias. and The Mole. The Circle Of Live imprint will release spontaneous live jams from those participating.

Tomas Jirku - Touching The Sublime [SSV18]

Tomas Jirku began his career in the golden era of minimal and glitch techno, helping to define the genres through releases on Alien8, Force Inc., Klang Elektronik, and Traum. Over the past two decades, Jirku has built a strong repertoire with his exploratory approach to music, experimenting across genres to develop a sound he can call his own.

“Touching the Sublime” is the culmination of this work, with material transformed through performance, experience and introspection. Inspired by his explorations of the remote wilderness that surrounds his home in Vancouver, Canada, Jirku evokes the philosophical concept of the sublime, where an overwhelming experience of awe confronts us with the limits of our rational minds. The album is a synesthetic auditory expression of Romantic era prose and stories of early alpinism. Bringing epic orchestral compositions and intimate guitar passages together with Jirku’s unique sense of space and texture, “Touching the Sublime” draws from his most important collaborators and influences to create a uniquely personal result. 

The album is accompanied by a limited edition photo book, where, as an accomplished photographer, Jirku has captured the landscapes and vistas that have been his inspiration.
