Synkro AKA Joe McBride teams up with veteran Arovane AKA Uwe Zahn for a sublime collaborative EP on Apollo. ‘ Refractive (Index)’ sees the duo exploring their shared love of broken beats and dreamy soundscapes.

The pair are also connected through their affection for Yamaha’s venerable handheld sequencer, the QY700 (also a favourite of dutch lo-fi house master Legowelt)

Arovane a long time stalwart of the acclaimed City Centre Offices imprint explains: "Everything started with a detail in an interview with Joe that grabbed my attention. I spotted a QY700 sequencer from yamaha on one photo. I used this piece of gear for decades to sequence all of my hardware and to produce my music. It’s part of my trademark sound of rhythm programming."

One of the factors that makes the QY700 beloved is it’s ability to change parameters in realtime to shuffle, shift, expand or compress the timing of each pattern independently. It’s touch can be felt throughout the oscillating rhythmic figures that wend through the gauzy pads and drifting melodies.

"We share the same wavelength when it come to breakbeats, musical taste and melodies,” Arovane continues “This EP is the beginning of something special!"

So I’ve had this idea for years, and finally its coming to life, thru a release on Touched. I wanted to do something bigger with my musical power for a good cause. I have an amazing network of musical friends, and almost everybody I asked to get involved said yes. I just want to make a statement, we all have power to do something good in this world, just think about it what it is for yourself and think of ways to make it happen. 

3 years ago I adopted a rottweiler from the shelter, he was in the shelter for 2 years. From all the dogs I took walks with I connected the most with him. And although he is a handful, I love him more than anything in the world. And it opened up my eyes even wider how I connect with them, mostly better than with humans. 

I just love animals, and dogs in particular. It was clear I wanted to pick a charity that helps dogs, nothing grabs me more by the throat than the horrific situation for dogs in the dog meat trade in Asia. I supported the soi dog foundation a couple of times already so this was a logical choice to focus on them. They do amazing stuff in the whole of Asia. 

Mission Statement of soi dog: 
To improve the welfare of dogs and cats in Asia, resulting in better lives for both the animal and human communities, to create a society without homeless animals, and to ultimately end animal cruelty.

@Synkro decided to take the tune directly to the heart of the dancefloor. With noticeable influences from drum & bass and autonomic music, he stretched the deep pulse of the original song and gave it a consistent rhythm to stand on, taking the deep wintery tone of the original, into an entirely new territory, the 2am of a London dancefloor perhaps. However fast the song’s tempo seems, the tune maintains a 2-step slower dynamic making it equally listenable at home as well a dancefloor starter. In his usual fashion, Synkro does it again, effortlessly combining the deep chill sounds with dancefloor beats, making this track another masterpiece by the UK born artist.

Souns - Sun Inside The Sun (The Remixes)’ is a collection of 4 unique reworks of Souns’ original song ‘Sun Inside The Sun’ taken from the Aquamarine album originally released on December 2017. It's forthcoming on Subtempo, and will be out in May 31st.

Heralding on relationships that have developed over the years, @michaelred handpicked @synkro, @loscil and @phaeleh to remix his ambient material that he composes under the @souns-3 alias. Michael has shared the studio, or the stage with all three of them in multiple occasions, making this collaboration a natural continuation of their work together.
