Based in Bristol, LTO first made waves as part of mysterious electronic collective Old Apparatus. As a solo producer, LTO has since attracted attention with his praised debut LP "The Number From Which All Things Come" and subsequent ambient/modern classical-focussed "Storybook“ LP. With "Déjà Rêvé“, he expands on that classical sensibility, creating a highly expressive and nuanced release for Denovali Records.

Each of the tracks on this record express a certain abstracted sense of time and place, often of a long forgotten memory or dream, or of an imagined future; of places foreign, yet strangely familiar; of varying states of consciousness; of non-linear time systems; of repetitive childhood fever dreams; of places with different laws of physics removing the constraints of day-to-day reality that you never want to leave; of unimaginable landscapes.

Broadening the already far-reaching colour palette of "Storybook", LTO has created something truly remarkable: complex piano arrangements, ethereal soundscapes, elegant orchestration and floating ambience, all perfectly placed in a rich cinematic landscape. LTO creates an ingenious dramaturgy, inducing different moods, from dark to light, with an inimitable depth and irresistible suction.

Déjà Rêvé

Frånvarande acts as both the prelude and epilogue to Mattias Gustafsson’s 2017 record Nattmusik, forming a temporal cradle around his B.A.A.D.M. debut. Side A was recorded back in 2012 and originally released under his Ornaments alias, manifesting as the withered, rain-eroded memory of a majestic orchestral lament, with bowed cymbals singing through layers of rust and the sound of children floating in through an open window. It was this 20-minute piece that inspired us to present Gustafsson with the conceptual framework for Nattmusik, through which he explored the cyclical symbiosis of humanity and nature. The four movements of side B were captured in winter 2018 as an elaboration on these themes, with pianos and loops tumbling into thickets of crumpled, perishing cassette. As a collection, these pieces frame Nattmusik as an absent point of origin; its reverberations are smeared across both the future and the past, yet the source sound is palpably missing. Just as the process of decay strands the object between the pre-degraded form and the eventual dissipation into the void, Frånvarande is a record that both clasps at moments passed and those yet to manifest, rendered nomadic and thirsting by the absence of its conceptual centre.

Ana Roxanne is an intersex Southeast Asian musician based in Los Angeles. Born & raised in the Bay Area to immigrant parents, Ana's love for music and singing began through her mother's cd collection of 80's/90's R&B divas. Raised in the catholic church, she became a devout choir nerd and found any opportunity to sing, whether for religious mass, the jazz ensemble of her catholic high school, or karaoke at family gatherings. Her commitment to singing led her to a brief stint at a vocational jazz program in the cornfields of the midwest; in a remote town of 7,000 people, she began a formal study of jazz and classical music. During these years she would tour with her jazz and chamber ensembles to beautiful old cathedrals in nearby cities and became enamored with the sacredness of choral music, as well as the enveloping sound of harmony. 

A near death experience, too, served as a connection between music and spirituality, and music as a healing art after facing tragedy. 

In 2013, Ana was also fortunate enough to spend a few months in Uttarkhand, India where she met an incredible voice teacher who introduced her to classical Hindustani singing. Living and studying with this teacher deeply impacted her outlook on the voice as art. It was there that she began to see the singer - the Diva - as a symbol of divinity; that the unique power of one's voice comes from the vulnerability of using the body as an instrument. Be it romance, love, or worship of a deity - in order to access such depths of emotional expression, one must be willing to be intensely vulnerable, lay one's heart in the open air, expose what is kept hidden. This brief study was the catalyst that led her to finish her music study at the experimental Mills College in Oakland, CA, where she began to combine all of these influences into her current self-titled project. This album ~~~ was created during her last years residing in the Bay Area, a tribute to the great musicians who inspired her and the landscape where she spent her formative years. 

In addition to the worship of R&B and pop divas, Ana's current practice explores themes of gender & identity. In October of 2018, she decided to come out publicly as intersex, and is dedicated to being a voice for her community and speaking out about social justice for intersex youth.

Our resident synth wizard James Holden’s collaborative streak continues apace as he teams up with celebrated Polish clarinet guru Waclaw Zimpel for a four track EP of deliciously krauty in-the-moment improvisations, recorded over four days in Holden’s London studio back in the summer of 2018. The richly textured 'Long Weekend EP' pits Holden’s handmade modular synth rig against Zimpel’s multifariously expressive alto clarinet, judiciously supplemented by organ, voice, assorted percussion and (on 'Tuesday' & 'Wednesday') the Balearic-tinged guitar playing of Zimpel’s long-time collaborator Jakub Ziolek, making for an immersive and transcendent lost weekend of deep listening.

Finding himself at a loose end in London one July weekend in between UK live shows, Zimpel put the downtime to good use and joined Holden in his Sacred Walls studio to undertake a series of musical experiments, with the goal of completing one track per day. Over the course of the weekend, built up in sequential tape-layered live overdubs, first the lush hypnotic undulating noodles of 'Saturday' would emerge from the ether, followed by the rushy enveloping expanses of the stridently emotional 'Sunday' (Holden’s own personal favourite from the EP) – a productive two days indeed.
