No one does it quite like R.E.D (Sophie Red). A DJ and producer born and raised in Wales and known for having her toes dipped in all things liquid and swampy. Now based in London, Sophie has built a renowned reputation in the underground scene which has landed her many appearances on radio shows and streams such as The Lot, Netail Radio and her residency show on Balamii 
The ethereal artist first caught our attention at Floorless festival which some might say is the UK’s cutest intimate summer gathering, as she compelled us with a late Sunday afternoon set in the rays filled with dubby infused, deep tones and rhythms that really hit our souls! Since then, R.E.D who is also the mega mind behind R.E.D Waxxx Records, a London based multi-genre label has spoiled us with many nights of hypnotic atmospheric music. 
In this 1 hour mix R.E.D takes us into a deep, chuggy wormhole that will melt your ears.....

1. How and why did you get into producing / dj’ing?

I have always been doing music since about 8 years old. Used to write my own music with my guitar / bass and singing. I started producing before DJ’ing making all sorts of music from electronic to post punk. When I started to DJ was when I went to uni about 7 years ago, I channelled all of my musical upbringing into this and really focussed on the sound I wanted to DJ.

2. Who, What/where was your most coziest gig you've been to or experienced and why?

I think there are two shows that come to mind here. The first was in about 2017 at a festival called Festival No.6 in Portmeirion Wales. I was with my family and it was raining, one of the venues was a big beautiful hall. We stumbled across a poet called Mike Garry who was collaborating with composer Joe Duddell. It was cosy and emotional as everyone was getting dry from the rain. 
The second cosiest gig I have been to was just as the world started to open up post Covid and gigs started to happen social distantly. I remember a night I went to Ronnie Scotts one evening and watched one of their in house jazz bands, unreal low lighting cozy vibes. 

3.Are you an introvert or extrovert in the industry?

I have always been an introvert even though I may come across as an extrovert at times. 

4. If you had to choose 1 track to vibe out too forever, what would it be?

Everything in its Right Place by Radiohead. Everytime! 

5. What is your routine when preparing for a gig / production/writing session? do you have any special remedies/ mental prep/ places to go to? :)

Ahead of shows, I usually do a face mask in the morning, do a some sort of work out/walk to clear my head, take my vitamins, a ginger shot & go through my records/rekordbox so I am prepared. 
Ahead of a production/writing session, make some sort of herbal tea, write down what/who is making me feel inspired at that time, make sure I plan regular breaks and get locked into the zone.

Recorded live at the first Rebloom on Saturday 11th May, a party series in London that celebrates deeper minded music. The first instalment was hosted at Avalon in South Bermondsey on a scorcher of a sunny day. 

This set was recorded quite early on in the programming, and an opportunity to transition from the ambient soundscapes played by the ever charming Tolly Odd, and try to lay a foundation for Shoal, Laura BCR and Ario who played later on in the evening.

For the past 20 years, Jorge Ortiz de Pinedo, known by his moniker STBL (@stable-mechanism), has been developing his work in the realms of electronic music and sound art. With beginnings deeply rooted in the most elusive and daring music, he has strived to maintain a stylistic coherence, oscillating between distinctly minimalist approaches and more "musical" ones, always balancing sobriety and rhetoric.

Author's note: My proposal for Temple clearly reflects all the paths I have been exploring in recent years, utilising field recordings, generative synthesis, and more classical ambient patterns. As is customary, each live performance by STBL is ephemeral and unique to each occasion, making this recording a snapshot of the present and a memory of my appearance at the marvellous Espacio Perpendicular.

#temple_for_listeners is an event dedicated to attentive listening and static dance, curated by Camu and Josephine's Soundscapes for Espacio Perpendicular.

Avenue Red turned up to Affinity at Eastern Bloc Records in Manchester's Northern Quarter back on the 17th July 2024... what a night! Event founder Max Howard AKA Maxxitrax had just kicked off a delightfully enchanting warm-up set and our ever-trusty recorder was plugged into the mixer, soundchecked and activated as quickly as possible... sadly the first few very dazzling and trippy records were missed from the recording, but what was captured 'till the end of his set was just beautiful. Max is clearly a selector's selector with top drawer technical skills. Proper solid intro vibes for a vibrant, hot summers evening session on Stevenson Square, which also later featured Tribe, Damo B and DJ Mindbender. And finally... here it is!

"This is a recording of my opening set from my last Affinity party held at Eastern Bloc. I wanted to use the opportunity to play records that I wouldn't get to play in a peak time or closing slot that I will usually play in. I had picked some records out that fit this narrative but turned up without a game plan. Luckily I managed to work things out so that I could play some soul tracks to start out with and then build tension up gradually. I really enjoyed the process, hopefully the listeners will enjoy it too.

Five tracks from his beautiful and intimate Binding Elements-album (2023) were pushed in new directions by befriended producers and colleagues such as Moon Patrol, Will Oirson and https://soundcloud.com/leifsounds.

The latter turns Submerge into a melodic minimalist piece which pays homage to both Susumo Yokota and Steve Reich. Swiss-born producer https://soundcloud.com/benkaczor goes 4x4 on Irregular, pushing the dreamy original towards Giegling territory in a good and meditative way. 

https://soundcloud.com/dwaalgast108 extrapolates the dub elements in the title track Binding Elements while Brooklyn duo Moon Patrol takes things even deeper on their bass heavy remix of Rise. Closing track Ray gets a wonderful sun-bleached ambient treatment by the talented https://soundcloud.com/willoirson. All five remixes breathe new life in the original versions while retaining their unique magic. That’s what friends are for.

Israel is only the executioner, every nation which has armed that country in the past year is an accessory to that genocide, an accomplice, a facilitator. Same phone number, same email addresses, and they still claim that they can't verify my identity.  I created that account about three years ago as a substitute to my regular account which SoundCloud temporarily closed.  They closed it as part of some upgrade procedure in their system, the result of a bug that affected many accounts, about two years ago.  Since SC did not inform its users I didn't know if that was permanent or not, so I created that other account which I can't access. You can't see it because of the angle with which I took the shot, aiming down, but beyond those blocks is the sea.  To the left is the Mediterranean, to the right is the Atlantic Ocean.  No it's not Gibraltar, but a little bit further West. ... Actually I checked recently and it is further North more than West, I thought I was facing South when in fact I probably was facing the Atlantic ocean, which is why I suppose the waves were of a decent size where we were.
